Buena simbiosis

Tales of Amber:

Pues os cuento un poco, es una simbiosis entre lo fresco y lo cálido, lo ligero y lo denso, lo dulce y lo salado.
Fragancia curiosa que gira en torno al ambergris y el iris.
En la salida noto un ládano muy resinoso y dulce que se mantiene aportando cuerpo y balance a la fragancia durante toda su vida, mezclado con algún cítrico efímero. Un iris cremoso del estilo maquillaje mezclado con notas maderosas dulcecitas aparece seguido, empieza empolvado y va girando hacia lo cremoso.
Al mismo tiempo el punto salado-animálico del ámbar gris le aporta la contraparte, el toque atractivo.
No es demasiado evolutivo más allá de la cremosidad que gana, aún siendo un perfume bastante aireado.
Nada gourmand, nada de canela ni postrecito a pesar de la vainilla. Es en definitiva un iris empolvado-amaderado-resinoso-salado.
Muy agradable de oler. Se nota bastante redondito y es muy adictivo y balanceado. Va a tener hype seguro , aunque posiblemente sea de esos perfumes polarizantes que amas u odias.
En piel se me hace perfecto para clima templado de entre tiempo, quizás más nocturno que diurno. No es demasiado proyectón aunque deja su estela.
Veremos si el cuerpo me pide repetir y hacerme con botella, últimamente me gustan las cositas de esta casa.

Smooth Salty Cinnamon

This one was a big turnaround for me. At first attempt, I got a screeching iris accord totally out of solution. Left a note to self “confusing scent tbh. not terrible not great.” Upon a second attempt, I got smooth salty cinnamon resting on a resinous base that never becomes overly vanilla or gourmand. The ambergris dry-down is addictive. On the Other Review Site, I see comps to Althair, which makes little sense to me. (I get that much more with Silky Woods Exilir, which I got in the same test kit). If we must comp a PdM, I maybe get some Oajan here. But I like it better than Oajan, on account of it being way less sweet and more woody, salty, spicy. Compliments, though admittedly from family, not strangers. I ordered the 10ml to have around this fall and winter, but a full bottle may have to follow.

Outstanding fresh spicy resinous iris blend, easygoing but classy.

The most recent release from Goldfield & Banks is Tales of Amber, which I first smelled at a launch event at Perfumology some weeks ago, an easygoing but classy blend that smells like a spicy, resinous, orris-laden blend that seemingly reminds some of Dior Homme or Dior Homme Parfum, but which I regard as both easier to wear and more comforting than either, something that stands out positively but can easily be sprayed a bit to excess with comfort. Additional supporting notes that add freshness, sweetness, and color are orange blossom, cinnamon, and (the resins) labdanum & oud. It manages to be sharp but not too heady, provocative but not overbearing, plentiful but not a distractive powerhouse, very good performance but not among the strongest of the house, from what I recall.

Its retail pricing is among the highest of the brand (as with most of the extrait collection, which is a higher price point than the EDPs that comprise the majority of the house’s catalogue) at $319 for 100ml, with a travel size of $63 for 10ml, sold in the US at great boutiques like Perfumology. As always, the travel size is a very nice option to try before buying a bigger size, particularly since there is not a more medium-sized (i.e. 30, 50, 75ml) available. This is among the most wearable and versatile fragrances in a very wearable and versatile house, so I could see it being an example that someone could wear abundantly to warrant a 100ml size.

Overall, I’m really impressed with this and it might be my very favorite of the line to date.

Powdery-warm Amber Fragrance, Perfect for Autumn

Autumn is approaching rapidly, and this Tales of Amber comes at just the right time. Freshly released, I had the opportunity to test it early with a sample included in a perfume order, and of course, I am reporting here in detail about this exciting new release from this brand from Australia. This release comes with relatively few fragrance notes but still feels complete and offers a wonderful autumnal overall picture with warm notes. This fragrance is part of the Botanical Series and boasts ambergris from New Zealand. This fragrance is one of the more expensive releases from this brand at a hefty €270 for 100ml. In my opinion, it is a bit overpriced, but this great amber scent certainly has a lot to offer. I find the powdery twist from the iris cool, which slightly reminds me of some Dior Homme releases from past years. The warm amber notes also convince me without immediately triggering a desire to buy. A wonderful fragrance that beautifully combines amber and iris. The scent is quite unisex due to this stylish mix, which also has a sensually warm vein.

The bottle is quite pretty with this blue tone, black elements, and a wooden cap. Very stylish and looks good in any niche collection.
From the scent, you get a harmonious fragrance, but I do not detect this price of almost €300. It has something very pleasing that I could classify as a designer scent in a blind test. The quality is indeed very high, but I have trouble categorizing it. Setting aside this price, I still give positive feedback on this fragrance, as it is truly harmonious with these warm notes. Behind the Ambre-83 accord lies a mix of vanillin and labdanum, which creates a warm, slightly sweet vibe. Additionally, there is a warm amber note that has that typical "cozy vibe." I find the iris twist cool, which slightly reminds me of releases from 5-10 years ago when this note was much more prevalent. A wonderful powdery note that works very harmoniously with this amber combination. Overall, this fragrance has a warm aura with resinous-powdery-spicy notes, and a pleasant subtle sweetness comes through. I cannot say how Australian oud smells, but true oud notes do not come through, at least not in the foreground. Woody-resinous notes do, and there is also a slightly cinnamon-like spice that gives this fragrance those wonderful autumn vibes. Overall, it is very rounded, and I like it a lot; I can very well imagine it in mild temperatures when the trees become a bit barer. The fragrance is versatile and works well in everyday life and also in the evening. The fragrance is absolutely unisex.
Performance is absolutely positive. The sillage is not too extreme, allowing room for multiple occasions. The sillage is in a good middle range, and the longevity is satisfactory at 8-10 hours.

Overall, a truly great fragrance, with the only criticism being the high price. However, the fragrance itself appears to be of high quality and impresses with this cozy-warm combination of resinous-spicy amber, powdery iris, and a woody sweetness. Very harmonious & pleasing.

Have a love/hate relo with this - love the waxiness up top and the way it sparkles while still being oceanic, but the middle few hours can go to hell.
