Exuberant summer games - nuances of the sister fragrances
18 days ago I published a review under this name without realizing that there are different versions of Nerolia Vétiver in the new range of Aqua Allegoria by Guerlain. There is an eau de toilette simply called "Nerolia Vétiver" that I actually wanted to review and I have since transferred that to the right place. But now I also wanted to test the other two fragrances, because the ingredients are not the same. "Harvest Nerolia Vétiver" has an orange blossom honey sweetness, "Nerolia Vétiver" has a sweet note with fig, and a green basil note. "Forte Nerolia Vétiver", which we are talking about here, is the spicy version and more intense, i.e. an eau de parfum. I have now sniffed all the fragrances in the range that interest me and that I have been able to obtain, and I like some of them, but I actually like this fragrance the best alongside its green sister, so I would like to dedicate a few words to it, which it deserves.
In the opening, the tangy yet soft neroli, a slightly tart but not pungent citrus fruit, tickles the nose awake, arm in arm with a fine sweet fig scent and the warm vetiver wood. The three are finely balanced, none dominates. Three children play a lively but peaceful game in the summer garden. And while they are still laughing together and making their surroundings happy, another friend joins them, steps out of the shade of the hedge, the slightly spicy darker tonka bean and now the game becomes even livelier, the laughter louder and I watch the imaginative game full of joie de vivre, movement and ideas. I remember playing in the summer vacations on the neighboring farm with my favorite uncle in the country. We romped around unsupervised, without having to be considerate, loudly, across the yard, through the barn, across the field, untamed, coming up with wild games, meaningful and nonsensical, deeply happy. The tonka bean is the leader, but one who does not drown out the three friends, she is a good team player. It gives the fragrance the strength that was the only thing I missed in the eau de toilette. "Nerolia Vétiver" is so beautiful, I just wanted more of it. "Forte Nerolia Vétiver" continues to radiate and lasts longer, as I would expect from an eau de parfum.
After a few hours, the fine vétiver wood is more noticeable, neroli is resting.
I sit down on the swing and push myself off vigorously, let myself be carried high up, this fragrance gives me exuberant joy amidst the summery scents, the games, the warmth.
