A modern sweet fairytale
What to say about Guess for Men... Looking at the bronze bottle you could get or guess the essential vibe of this scent: well rounded woody amber. With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful scent. It is modern, oriental, bittersweet citrus, aromatic, and amber of course, in the same league as Davidoff Adventure and Hugo Boss Soul.
On my skin it opens with a shot of orange mandarin, which is bittersweet and not that kind of orange in summer cologne, blended with ginger, which makes it a bit spicy. There is even a blow of black pepper, but it not that strong. This pleasant overture lasts for ten minutes or so.
Let's get to the heart of this gem... I get a floral bouquet of neroli and lavender, mixed with aromatic sage and rosemary. I have no idea what star fruit smell like, but for sure the violet leaf gives to the heart a touch of wet.
It pretty much stays spicy and flowery until it begins to dry and that is when I pick up leather. I am sure the other notes are there but to me I can only believe they soften and sweeten the leather. Patchouli is soft, neither earthy nor dirty, and the ebony gives off an acrid smell like burning coffee. The sweetness of the amber is in there, no question about it-
The result is a fragrance that is refined enough for the office because it is restrained in it's projection and sensual enough close to the skin for intimate occasions.
I get a lot of sweetness and find it a semi-heavy fragrance, and I am inclined to wear it during the fall season, maybe any season but summer, daytime and evening are perfect, for outgoing or casual situation, yet even at work.
