Another Cozy Date Night Fragrance
I bought and tested Guess Seductive Noir for two reasons. First, Guess impressed me with 1981 Los Angeles for men. Second, I heard positive praise for this fragrance as well.
That said, I tested Guess Seductive Noir, and the results were surprising!
Imagine, if you will, a perfume like Paco Rabanne One Million, but subtracts some sweetness.
The result is Guess Seductive Noir for Men.
Similarities aside from the two fragrances, I will review how Seductive Noir stands on its own as a fragrance.
----
This fragrance opens with black pepper and nutmeg, warm spices that are both familiar and exotic. The opening feels synthetic, but that phase dissipates rapidly.
Soon the fragrance transitions into a luscious soft sweetness heart note of apple and lavender. The base note containing tonka bean and sandalwood enhances the sweet profile while maintaining its calmness.
The spiciness and sweetness can make the fragrance lean more towards unisex, but the sandalwood in the base note gives the fragrance a masculine touch.
----
I like the bottle's modern aesthetic and the black matte finish. Dark bottles help protect the fragrance from light exposure to keep freshness.
That said, I dislike the matte gold at the top underneath the cap, as that part looks tacky. Also, the cap is not a solid fit. Yet, these are minor complaints about a fragrance at an affordable price point.
----
Guess Seductive Noir’s performance is typical for an eau de toilette.
Sillage and projection are average. This will not announce a person’s presence while entering a room, but a second person passing by or entering their personal space should notice the fragrance.
Longevity for the fragrance is roughly six hours, which is fine for most events. If someone wants the fragrance to percolate throughout the day, carry the fragrance to respray.
----
In terms of social usage, Seductive Noir is useable as an office or as a typical daily scent, as the sweetness is not cloying. In addition, seductive Noir is a decent leisure fragrance to relax before bedtime.
It is useable year-round, but the best time of year is in the cooler months of autumn and winter, where sweet smells shine the best. The fragrance is useable in warm weather, but spray lightly to avoid potentially overwhelming other people.
An older gentleman may shy away from Seductive Noir because of the sweetness, but this fragrance is more mature, and a decent entry point if one will experiment.
This is not a workout fragrance. Sugar and spice and everything nice seldom blends well with running, dancing, and weightlifting. The result is a not-so-pleasant combination of sweetness and funk.
With a name like Seductive Noir, it surprises no one that this fragrance shines on a date night, as sweet smells are enticing and lure people closer.
However, I mentioned Seductive Noir has a familiar scent profile. That is a potential psychological trigger on a first date, which can include anything from good times with friends or siblings (which while usually positive, can also end with "You remind me of my sibling/friend."), or horrible times with an atrocious ex.
----
Guess Seductive Noir for Men is an overall good fragrance. Sweet aromas are popular for a reason; the intensity and type vary, but the combination smells pleasant to most people.
If someone is looking for a unique fragrance to blend stand out from the crowd, Guess Seductive Noir is too trendy and will become a massive disappointment.
However, if someone seeks a fragrance that is lightly sweet, easy to wear, and easily affordable, Guess Seductive Noir may be a good choice.
