Seductive indeed
Guess Seductive OG has been in my collection for 5 years now: opened, but barely touched. It's too bland and any seductiveness is hard to find. I've kept it, because not that long ago I barely had any perfume on my dresser (and I don't chuck things that fast anyway).
I'd been eyeing the Noir for years now and when I saw it offered under €20 I pulled the trigger. And... I'm pleasantly surprised. Seductive Noir has, imho, absolutely nothing of the OG DNA, besides the same bottle (in black though).
The opening is almost black liquorice like, but I know its a deep, fragrantic freshly plucked sage that says hello with very obvious moving hands. The bergamot and peony in the top are simply overpowered though peony manages to say a quick hi before the flapping hands of Sage are back again. This is no queenly wave, but a beefy blacksmith's shake. Despite the Sage bomb with a teensy peony Seductive Noir intrigues from the start.
When the heart shows up to compliment the herby, aromatic top the scent gets a bit more complexity with jasmine as greatest supporter and lily as its understudy. For me no powderiness and nothing else that reminds me of iris before the vetiver shows up.
One could say Seductive Noir has a masculine side with the prominent Sage and Vetiver, and that might have been true if the suede had pushed through most. But beside the blossoming jasmine of the heart it is vanilla that wins the race for attention.
Guess marketed the entire Seductive line to a younger woman - 20 something -, but when it comes to the Noir flanker I think age is but a number (I actually always think that, but society loves its boxes). Any person of any age could wear this fragrance and enjoy her. While I don't consider this flanker a dupe of Mon Guerlain - something I've heard say on YT - I do think that the same person wears both. Or could, if they had Guerlain money and/or no snobbery for the perfume you can find in a drugstore. I also think Alien Mugler enthusiasts might enjoy Seductive Noir when they want a lighter jasmine perfume that still has some "balls".
When it comes to sillage and longevity Seductive Noir is almost as big a disappointment as the OG. I needed to spray twice to let her shine in the beginning (NB. My skin is very dry and eats perfume, so don't think this'll be the case for everyone) and then it lasted about 4hours tops. But...I also think she'll be better suited in temperatures about 17+ degrees Celsius lower than when I wore GSN the first few times. My skin will be different then.
I'll edit a PS once I've tested a Fall & Winter wear.
Alltogether Seductive Noir is a nice find that does have a Seductive twist, making this fragrance a great date night + going out perfume. But, I also think it could very well be a daily AW scent for a woman who knows what she wants and who she is. Seductive Noir is a bit sensual, a bit sexy, but also a warm, aromatic blanket. I should've pulled that trigger ages ago!
