A sparkling rose... wrapped in sheer, soft silk.
This fragrance has a truly beautiful smell to it. I really love Rose in all forms and this one is just exquisite!

Rose Ikebana is inspired by the texture of Silk, and the Japanese art of flower arrangement (Ikebana). As usual, Jean-Claude Ellena lends his unique style to this composition by accenting the Rose note with Grapefruit citrus and tangy Rhubarb, with a light Green Tea note in the background surrounded with bright citrus throughout.

In my opinion this is a Rose perfume for people who don't like Rose so much! Another thing I love about what Ellena has done here is that he has made it so light and refreshing that you don't get tired of smelling it. It is constantly fascinating and drawing you closer. A lot like his other creation "Iris Ukiyoé" (another one inspired by Japan). But whereas that one was the smell of Iris surrounded by bright citrus, this one is a sparkling Rose. Fresh and uplifting! Fantastic stuff.

Rose tea
Rose Ikebana is simply rose tea.

Simply? Not so sure because here there is clearly a wooded dimension which makes it lean towards the East.

Half green and fresh, half woody and deep, it's absolutely addictive. Maybe we have a blend of green and black tea here? I couldn't say.

Too bad the price is so high, no perfume should cost this much...

My New No. 1
Recently, I came across a sample of Rose Ikebana. Rose Ikebana is one of the few Hermessence fragrances that I have consistently ignored until now. I actually don’t like rose scents. A casual test in a Hermes store years ago left me with the impression of a watery-light rose water. I own and love Osmanthe Yunnan and Cuir d´ange, and I was sure that the rose could never compare.

But sometimes, things turn out differently than you think. I sprayed the sample, held no expectations. Yet suddenly, while sitting at a wine bar, a stunningly soft hint of barely anything more than nothing wafted into my nose. What was that? Warm skin, was my first thought. Somehow round and full yet also fresh and slightly spicy.

I needed a moment to understand. So this is the rose tea arrangement by Jean Claude Ellena! Brilliant! Both components were distinguishable upon closer “sniffing.” It felt as if the aromatic tea darkened the rose over time, taking away its sweet-rosy quality and giving it something lightly spicy. In any case, it seemed to slowly envelop her in a delicate warm veil. The overall result was not really “rosy,” but rather fabric-like and silky, as if you could gently touch the scent. I was simply captivated. What a beautiful Ikebana!

Well, and then there was no stopping me. I now own two 15ml bottles of Rose Ikebana and I don’t think it’s unlikely that this fragrance will eventually become my No. 1 in the Hermessence line. It is even more harmonious on the skin than Osmanthe Yunnan, whose tea-flower blend sometimes unfortunately unfolds a bit “scratchy” on me. Compared to Ellena’s masterpiece and the second skin scent in the line, it seems even subtler to me. And it is less abrasive; after all, leather, even when worked in as velvety as in the angel scent, is not everyone’s cup of tea.

By the way, it’s often said that Un jardin sur le Toit bears some resemblance to Rose Ikebana. I find that to be true, although it only reveals itself in the beautiful middle and base notes of the Jardins, when the completely wild compost notes emerge. A lovely alternative for those who don’t want to go all in right away!

For me, the rose lasts up to 10 hours. As with the other Ellena Hermessences, the scent is not so intense, but still perceptible for a long time. The sillage is very close to the body; anything else would turn the scent into something else at its core!

Rose Immortelle
For me, this fine, Asian tea rose has become immortal today. I wouldn't indulge in a 100 ml bottle just because of the price, and besides, the scent might be slightly too feminine, but a 15 ml bottle would be perfect. Typical Ellena, one of his best compositions and one of the best, juicy roses overall.

It reminds me a lot of Un Jardin Sour Le Toit and of course Pamplemousse Rose... Both are a bit more varied, but also less focused, high-quality, and perfect in my opinion - at least in the attempt to present a gentle, elegant summer rose scent. A light tea vibe, minimal lemon (no comparison to Pamplemousse Rose or even the Concentree), and a few fruits and spices far in the background. The rest is a bright red, airy-transparent rose. And it is so pleasant that even rose haters will struggle to criticize it. This rose is invigorating and fun, without losing its elegance and calm. It almost rests in itself, calming the wearer as well. You can't smell more beautiful in summer.

Bottle: it's a pity that the 15 ml bottles don't have these caps.
Sillage: maximum average.
Longevity: unfortunately only a mere 6 hours, one can dream.

For me, a masterpiece and a rose to dream of! So gentle, so fresh, so invigorating and elegant! Minimalism perfected!

Tea, tea, only you alone shall be the scent of my heart!
Yes, I know, an extremely disrespectful title for this delicate, enchanting, unique fragrance! On the way to Venice (where I became a victim of “The Merchant of Venice”), we had a unfortunately - if you ask my scent nose or thank God - very short stay at Munich Airport. On the way to the next gate, the path practically led directly through the Hermès store. With a cheerful “Just a minute,” I briefly diverted, and - oh wonder - my two sons followed me. This can only be attributed to my surprise attack, as no resistance formed. And - an even greater wonder - the two were spontaneously really enthusiastic about two fragrances: Osmanthe Yunnan and Rose Ikebana. Rose Ikebana had been on my “must test at the next opportunity” list since I read the comment from Leimbacher, which triggered all my low “I want to smell this - and right now” instincts. And what can I say: Every word he wrote is true, as true as I am called scent addiction.
I also love “Eau de Pamplemousse Rose” and “Rhubarbe Écarlate” despite or precisely because of their delicate evanescence and restraint. In comparison to “Rose Ikebana,” they are like comparing two little trolls to an ethereal elf. “Rose Ikebana” is an idealized rose scent, a strictly minimalist tea whisper, and an abstract citrus note woven into a beautiful overall perfume masterpiece. The name fits perfectly. “Ikebana,” the meditative art of bringing a few flowers together with selected materials into a perfectly balanced equilibrium - that is “Rose Ikebana” in perfume form.
I must confess: In an acute fit of olfactory irresponsibility, I would have probably taken “Rose Ikebana” and “Osmanthe Yunnan” in the regular size. Fortunately for our family travel budget, my husband was by my side, who quite salomonically had the four times 15 ml pack filled with two pieces each of “Rose” and “Osmanthe.” And the nice lady who advised me, who had taken a liking to my two boys and my husband, who stood by me as perfume advisors, also provided me with some other fragrance samples from the Hermessence line, which, how could it be otherwise, sent my delight soaring to unimaginable heights. I swear: NEVER has a visitor on Venice's tourist paths smelled better...
PS: Good thing my husband kept me grounded: Because the virtually “saved” amount was successfully converted into “Merchant of Venice” scent addiction substances before our return flight from Venice!

Lovely fragrance. If only it lasted for more than one hour I'd happily get a bottle of it. But it doesn't. Such a shame.

Smells so tart and happy. My test strips were unlabeled and I thought it was one of the Jardins, except a "red" version with rhubarb.

Depression repellent: rhubarb fruity, rose petal, cherry blossom soft, lemon juicy, tea fine. We found each other spontaneously likable.

The tartness of rhubarb tones down the rose's overly rosy scent. Delicate spicy tea notes envelop everything. For me, it's an elegant Hermès mix.
