Patchouli Sauvage
Another amazing fragrance by Houbigant. I ordered a sample set which blew me away. The set contains seven fragrances, which are not just fragrances. But these fragrances, these fragrances that Houbigant creates, those are pieces of art. The day that I find a better fragrance house still has to come. Personally, I hope that day never comes.

Patchouli sauvage, an amazing spring and autumn fragrance which can be worn during summer and winter aswell. The scent is just breathtaking, just like Cologne Intense by Houbigant which is unfortunately discontinued. Patchouli Sauvage opens mostly with the pink pepper and grapefruit, after which I smell the patchouli and bergamot with some woodyness on the background. Despite the woodyness, the fragrance does not give off a warm scent, which makes it in my opinion more wearable during spring, summer and autumn time, than during winter time. The freshness, and greenness of the other notes are superior to the warmth of wood and tonka bean. If I had to guess, maybe 80/20, or 75/25.
I have worn the fragrances a few days in a row to test the sillage, and durability. However now that it is colder weather, I find that this fragrances suits warmer weather better. Think of 15-25, maybe 30 degrees. The durability of this fragrance is great, it sits for at least nine hours on the skin, I do not know after nine hours, because nine hours after spraying the perfume on my wrist I went to bed. The sillage is average, less than one meter, which in my opinion is the best for fragrances.

If you like fragrances which give off some green, earthy, maybe somewhat spicy smell. This fragrance is definetly something to try!! If you like the smell Hermes H24, especially Herbes Vives or the EDP, a designer fragrance which is more accesible in the stores. Then I think that you would really like the smell of this fragrance aswell, which makes it a great option if you are interested in niche fragrances!

Patchouli Sauvage
This one just smells harsh and cheap to me. Not Private Label harsh. The later is a great, somewhat complex composition.

What we get here, is a 25€-for-a-100ml-bottle kind of smell. Therefore, even if you will enjoy this one (it is possible, taste does differ), I don't think it is worth it's price tag.

The others from the line are so much better. However, this one does not match the creators legacies.

The essence of Patchouli
The Patchouli is an essence with a great olfactory charge, with a dry, earthy, intense smell.
It gives sensuality, depth and incisiveness.
The first famous woman to love it, apparently for its aphrodisiac properties, was Poppea, wife of Nero.
In recent times it has been the symbol of a revolutionary generation.
That of Hippies.
In Patchouli Sauvage we find a Patchouli with all these characteristics, intense, slightly sparkling at the beginning thanks to the bergamot, but then totally itself, intensified by the labdanum, the dried fruits and the woods.
Without compromise it is the absolute protagonist.
I find it one of the most successful interpretations of this note, truly beautiful.
Not one painting, but many masterpieces: the frescoes of the villa of Poppea in Oplontis, at the time a suburban area of Pompeii.

Brutally gorgeous patchouli
Ugh, I feel so silly sometimes. I saw the bottles and totally judged them — the branding, the design — it all felt like something made for people born in the 1920s. My bad. Totally.
Because wow — this is such a deep, earthy patchouli with a dark soul, but it never feels heavy. There’s a touch of sweetness that smooths it out, but not in a basic way — it’s almost hypnotic.
Right after spraying, I get aromatic, resinous vibes — even a bit balsamic. Then the patchouli kicks in: damp, dark, elegantly dirty. As it dries down, it warms up with amber and woods, and there’s this bold, beautiful incense note that really stands out (seriously, wow).
It vaguely reminds me of cruising-area , but honestly? I like this Houbigant way more. It’s intense but balanced — like velvet on skin. Totally unisex, but I’ll admit it: smelling this on a man would absolutely ruin me. Brutally gorgeous.

Patchouli or Patchouly or Patschuli
...when you google it, you find all three terms for this oriental-scented plant, "plant species from the family of mint plants"

I must admit that I love patchouli at certain times, and preferably in its strongly scented form with an overwhelming aura.

Oriental, aphrodisiac, spicy, earthy, strong, dark, erotic, attractive, esoteric, all-consuming... most attributes are positive.

Musty, earthy, cellar, rancid, old, greasy, repulsive, nauseating, disgusting..... most attributes are negative.

I find that the composition, the perfumer, the blend makes the difference between a wonderfully addictive patchouli or the exact opposite.

I own several patchoulis, Psychedelique, Coromandel, Le Lion, Supreme Patchouly...., this one from Houbigant and they are all patchoulis yet so different, but I love them all.
Depending on how I feel, I can create the aura I need at the moment, distance, closeness, eroticism, dreams, retreat...

Houbigant has filled a gap for me with this fragrance among my patchoulis.

It smells very earthy and also dark like patchouli, then becomes woodier, balsamic, a bit lighter and drier over time without losing depth, it remains earthy gray with bright tones of nature, Mother Earth has captured me.

If I were to furnish a room, only pleasant beautiful natural woods would be in it, natural colors, earthy tones, lots of heavy natural-colored linen, a hammock made of raffia, chairs and accessories made of seagrass, somewhere in the Mediterranean region, where the warm spice lingers despite gentle breezes, and I feel comfortable and relax and find peace.

I find this scent underrated, as it is exactly the patchouli I sometimes need, not too citrusy or overlaid with spices, for me it is beautifully evolving.
At first spray, I thought there was basil in it, which quickly dissipates and the woody earthy patch comes through right away, later it becomes a bit drier but also more balsamic on me, the woody earthy remains, I love it.

Longevity is very good with several hours, sillage as well.

.....and I like that on certain days

Sickeningly dense patchouli, very heavy at first. But dries down quite nicely into somewhat more manageable earthiness.

Nothing wild here,
rather elegant and spicy.
A bit earthy and sweet,
noble woods linger too,
that's really nice.

Balsamic-sweet patchouli from start to finish. Sometimes bright with citrus, sometimes resinous with labdanum, other notes also shine through.

Sweet fruity oriental opening
Unfortunately a bit chaotic at first
The finish is a fine interplay of vetiver, woods, and amber

Quite dark, dry, and somewhat earthy patchouli. Definitely has an oud-like aspect, very distinctive.
