Tropical Aquatic
Falling Into the Sea opens with a big litchi note--juicy and robust. If you've never smelled litchi before, it kind of falls somewhere between pear, apricot, and peach. The litchi is backed by exotic flowers along the lines of mimose and lotus. As a result, this fragrance has a very tropical feel, and perhaps to call it a "tropical aquatic" is most appropriate. While I never detect a specific "sand" note, there is definitely a salty, beach-like quality that emerges about 20 minutes in to complete the picture. What you're left with is something of a fantastical impression of a tropical beach--a place close to one's imagination though somewhat displaced from reality. This works because for the most part the ingredients used in Falling Into the Sea feel natural enough to permit such an imaginative leap--your impression isn't jarred by harsh synthetics or scratchy aroma chemicals that remind you immediately that what you're smelling is fake. Yes, the notes are somewhat fantastical, but they are not so much chemical. In turn, the ingredients allow space for your mind to wander. To that extent, I think this fragrance is a success. As the fragrance hits the one hour mark, the litchi subsides to a degree and the florals become more apparent.

Although labeled as unisex, I'm more inclined to consider this a feminine fragrance. The exotic florals and big litchi note just seem better suited for a woman to wear. Though I don't mind smelling it on my arm at the moment, I probably wouldn't feel completely comfortable wearing this out in public. However, for women, I think this is a viable option in this category and definitely worth exploring. Projection is quite powerful and longevity is solid.

A nice take on a summer cologne ...
Haha ... the back stories of these fragrances, while clever, are extremely '50's B-movie' in nature :). One can imagine Natalie Wood playing Nica Galas and Robert Wagner playing the handsome young cliff diver who steals her heart. Well ... we all know how their last tangle on the ocean ended.

Falling Into the Sea is stuffed with bright, brisk Lemon and Grapefruit up top ... and (yuck) Lychee. Thankfully, the overly sweet fruitiness is soon dissipated by some lovely tropical florals ... a little Ylang maybe and a solid helping of Jasmine with a touch of suntan lotion thrown in for good measure. I'm wondering if the use of a fixative has been made here, because the hesperides (mostly Grapefruit) have a very nice longevity. The florals develop a touch creamy, so there may be some sort of Gardenia derivative present here too ... they are, however, very soft in an innocent sort of way.
When it comes to cologne-like scents, I must say that I prefer mine a little more classic. Whatever Bergamot is present in the opening is rather heavily overshadowed by the other citruses ... which I find to be a great pity.

This is a 'nice' fragrance from Imaginary Authors which I find a little twee for myself personally. It does lack quite a bit of the projection and longevity of the others from this house that I have sampled, but it is worth a try among those who like smelling of summertime at the beach :).

Nice but Boring Citrus
The scent starts out strong with the bitter citrus of bergamot, lemon, and grapefruit. The grapefruit is the scent that stands out the most, which is nice, because most times its the bergamot or lemon that that dominate. Throughout the whole scent there is floral background. The floral is weak at first but as the citrus mellows, the floral comes through. This fragrance lasts maybe 3 hours and it doesn't really project off the skin. So its a nice citrus but nothing really makes it stand out from others and it won't get you noticed.

One small issue
So the first time I tried this on I was pretty pleased. The citrus fades fast but it settles into a warm, tropical scent on the skin. However, I tried it on again today and... I smell like pickles? I was thinking it was something else around me, but my wife also pulled me aside and said "hey, you smell like a pickle." Not really sure what to do with this fragrance now. Quite a pickle indeed.

Imaginary ocean
I mostly wanted to try this for the sand note, because I couldn’t imagine what that would smell like. Sure enough, there is something sandy to this fragrance that I can’t describe. It’s primarily a fresh floral citrus fragrance, more floral than I would normally wear, but I can see the appeal. There’s nothing aquatic in the notes, but the combination of citrus, exotic florals, and sand is undeniably beachy and I think I’m even imagining an aquatic note that doesn’t exist because of the strong associations this scent is giving me with the ocean.

Lemon, Bergamot and Grapefruit seduce you with citrus, sweet and floral lychee tickles you and warm sand soothes you.

Lot of unnecessary hate on this one. Smells like sweet sunscreen but not the bug spray kind. Above average performance, and is great in warm weather.

The smell reminds me of Juicy Fruit gum, but in a good, refreshing way. This may be one of the few candy-like scents I enjoy.

Very citrusy and then the dry down is floral and sandy. Less Capri and more coast of Scotland.

A margarita with a generously salted rim - bright and salty and refreshing. It quickly settles close to the skin and lingers there.

I was expecting this entire oceanfront beach scenario and instead I got a glass of juice at best, a Glade Plug-In at worst.

Strong citrus and salt opener. Dry down is heavy on the tropical floral with sand as a back up. Not a “stuffy” floral. Mid to low sillage.

Fresh floral citrus. Undeniably beachy. There is something sandy to it. I'm even imagining an aquatic note.
