I hope you like lavender!
An inoffensive, clean lavender-heavy scent. I primarily get rosemary and gentian after that initial lavender blast, and as it progresses it smells increasingly powdery. It's not exactly my favorite kind of scent profile; I was hoping that the herbal notes would be stronger. It veers dangerously close to smelling like detergent, but depending on the nose that's not exactly a bad thing!
On my skin it projects for about an hour and then quickly goes to an intimate skin-scent. I can smell it on me for 3-4 hours before it fades. Fox in the Flowerbed, Saint Julep, and Telegrama have longer longevity on my skin, and I do prefer those three much more than this one.
It did smell a lot better on the paper strip than it did on my skin, so it can also be chalked up to skin chemistry issues.

How To Say Bicycle In French isn't going to turn any heads, and it's certainly not going to make anyone drop their baguettes, but it definitely won't burn any nose hairs. Definitely sample!

Unique, well-executed green, savory, fresh blend of herbs
Sampling the latest release from Imaginary Authors, How to Say Bicycle in French, a vibrant, fresh mix of primarily savory elements, including basil, rosemary, thyme, clary sage, lavender, and gentian oil, the last of which I needed to look up as I’m unfamiliar with it. It’s pretty remarkable that this assortment of most food-connoted ingredients comes together in a harmonious ensemble. It opens frankly almost a bit spicy and sharp, albeit fresh, green, and vegetal, but calms down a bit as it dries down. Overall, though, it remains a bit provocative throughout its lifespan, despite becoming a little more pleasantly subdued over time. It’s a very effective intersection of concepts and would ordinarily not be something I’d expect to enjoy so much based on the note listing but it feels so carefully considered and well executed.

As with the rest of the line, it’s EDP concentration and priced at $115 for 50ml (with a travel size available at $46 for 14ml), sold via both the house website and an assortment of US boutiques like Perfumology. The pricing for the line remains extremely reasonable, with only one jump in pricing in the past decade, pretty remarkable in recent years. Performance-wise, it’s not among the house’s more robust performers, but its quality is still palpably great and I think I might find the opening a bit overwhelming if it were significantly stronger, anyway.

A real innovative creation and yet again something quite new for the catalogue. Bravo to Josh Meyer once again!

An old jar of bead baths or a bathroom cleaning product?
This is definitely not it and I'm glad I only got myself a sample. It definitely smells like herbs from the garden: strong, green and savory. Unfortunately, they have that screechiness to it that's not the best thing to my nose. Thyme is the strongest herb that comes up to my nose, but I also get basil and rosemary. All together, it becomes this weird, fresh and green minty-like scent.

As it settles on my skin, it becomes a bit more powdery and soapy. It definitely smells "old", vintage and grandmother-like. It reminded me of an old jar of bead baths my grandmother used to have in her bathroom. That's also another unfortunate thing: it smells similar to a bath cleaning product I can't replace.

Based on the ratings at the time of this review (6.5/10), I'm not the only one who's had trouble with this fragrance. I think it could've been a very beautiful scent, but there's something that pulls too fresh and minty, making me think of a bathroom cleaning product. Will definitely not me going for a full bottle of this. Sample before you buy!

Herb Garden Hand Soap Deluxe
First spray evokes standing in the herb garden in the sun. The basil has just been watered and is putting on a show. The lavender is flower and leaf on the bush. Both notes fade into the background behind the clary sage pretty quickly. Smelling my skin again after 10 minutes, the thyme stands out the most. As it moves into the base, the lavender makes its appearance again.

I find the gentian supporting the rosemary and thyme adds a green note that keeps it from being overtly floral, and pushes it into unisex territory.

I wouldn't call this a soapy scent, per se, but it does remind me of some hand soaps I have used in my day.

The whole experience is short-lived but enjoyable enough nonetheless.

warm, soapy, citrusy floral, moves more herbal on the drydown
i really enjoy this scent! it starts off smelling like a nice floral citrusy soap that you would use in the claw-foot tub-turned shower of a sun-drenched bathroom in an charming old house in the countryside. on the drydown it turns more into the herb garden outside of the cottage. i find the herbal notes really nice, the rosemary comes through in a big way which i love :)

Lavender & bitter thyme pack quite a punch.
Green, spicy in a rough, invigorating fashion.
Develops into a luxurious, sweetened herbal soap.

Pleasant enough synthetic neo-fougere with signature Imaginary Authors flowery, soapy accord and a handful of aromatic herbs. Forgettable.

Herbal/screechy, like air freshener at a thrift store, then soften/sweetens eventually. Soapy and stale, like grandma's closet.

Green all the way, from opening to drydown. Herbal linear scent. Not my cup of a tea. Short longevity, low sillage.

Very different scent on skin vs clothes. Fresh and soapy/clean smelling. Gave me the impression of laundry detergent (which I liked).

Very strong screechy herbal beginning. Becomes a weird, soapy herbal scent from a grandmother's forgotten jar of old bead baths.

Weird, on paper it's soft, cloudy and soapy kind of herbal, but gets a bit funky on my skin. Needs more testing.
