Irish Spring Green
The opening of Ineke BALMY DAYS & SUNDAYS reminds me of the opening of Moschino CHEAP & CHIC. From there, however, the composition turns into a somewhat synthetic-smelling green, green, green perfume. My cat hated this one, so it fell immediately from contention. I guess that I do in fact agree with him that it seems a bit too chemically to qualify as a green that I'd reach for. Green and synthetic are natural enemies, n'est-ce pas?

In the interest of fair reviewing, I should make clear that I number among those who eschew all Irish Spring green colognes (chez Creed et al.). If you like them, then you might like this one as well.

Intriguing First Date ends in a Awkward One Night Stand
Balmy Days starts off very green soapy and smart. It's invigorating, cheerful and leaves a clean green floral trail behind the wearer. I think this is suitable for a man or a woman, for daytime, casual or office wear, with a good amount of lasting poawer ~8 hours. I was so impressed with the first hour of this that I was thinking "Oh-Oh"- Swoonworthy! I love my luscious green balmy fragrances. The Ineke line has moderate sillage for a Niche brand and this was projecting about a 2 meter radius for the first 20 minutes, then settle down to a comfortable 1 meter for the next 3-4 hours and now is about (6 inches) 15.24 cm after 6 hours. It was very herbal, not particularly balmy, as the name might suggest, but a delightfully wearable soapy chypre. Unfortunately it appears to be devolving with my skin chemistry to a very vinegary, rancid, vegetal, musky rose. It never did become musky warm sensual or balmy as I expected. Disappointingly, this remains me of a less potent version of Bond No.9's Astor Place (which stays lovely and stronger for 12 hours). Oh Well, every once in a while I will have this sort of reaction to a Chypre- perhaps it is a unique personal problem, a chemical sensitivity to an particular additive- which only reinforces the need for each person to sample everything on their own skin and more than once if possible. I wish this had not transformed into an unpleasant mess, but it really turns very synthetic, sour and dirty like composted grass clippings decomposing mixed with apple-cider vinegar- yes, it's weird, I know! It was like a lovely encouraging dinner date filled with delightful conversation, long gazes and perhaps a bit too much Malbec, a shot or two of Midori- that leads to dizzy dirty dancing, hand-holding by the riverbank and then a gentle caress carried one step too far...ending in a rushed and uncomfortable exit the morning after as One realizes that things just don't look, sound or smell as entrancing sometimes in the morning when One wakes up with a pounding headache face-to-face with a rancid smelling stranger and brunch plans with the Girls, requiring a hasty and permanent departure.

Because I Believe...
Because I believe that the earth
will keep spinning tomorrow
and my house with roof and windows
will still stand here on my street,

that the tree in my garden
will not break even in the fiercest storm,
that the bee on the bun
will not sting me on the lip,

that the man by my side
will stand by me even in a hurricane
and the banker across from me
will not engage in shady dealings.

Because I believe that in the end
even the longest night,
from the cold, from the darkness
new courage for life will awaken,

that the ground, which just yesterday
was ice-frosted, hard and bare,
will already be sprinkled with tender green
and transform into a sea of blossoms,

that the clouds will keep moving
over friend and foe alike,
and that the soldier's mother
will soon only cry tears of joy.

Because I believe, because I hope,
again and again, day after day.
Confidence is easier to bear when I
wear "Balmy Days & Sundays."

A Sunday on Saturday
Balmy days & sundays...
Here I think of relaxation and pure coziness. A day in bed. A quiet, peaceful Sunday in togetherness, without hustle and bustle and without stress. Without commotion. Therefore, I would expect a thoroughly cuddly scent. Essentially, the olfactory embodiment of the feeling of stretching and lounging when you lie in bed and it’s so cozy that you just want to snuggle deeper into the covers and definitely don’t want to get up. So, I would imagine a fragrance with a light sweetness, a bit powdery, a hint of vanilla, close to the skin, innocent and subtle.

Balmy days & sundays is far too green, too lively, too invigorating for that. Wearing balmy days, I bounce out of bed full of energy, wanting to go outside, take a picnic blanket and plenty of food, a good book, a few friends, a game of badminton, music.

And so, just the first sniff conveys a very green, slightly herbal, invigorating and fresh impression. Here you are already sitting on the green summer meadow, under a tree in the shade, dozing a little, breathing in the scent of the lush green leaves that gently sway above in the wind. Sunlight flickers through the branches and the vibrant green foliage spreads its aroma in all directions. The first friends arrive, calling from afar, running through the freshly fragrant lush green grass of the meadow, swinging their badminton rackets. A pleasant day is in store. Cozy yet active.

Later, you sit together relaxed at the picnic, laughing and eating. A subtly floral and lightly powdery-spicy scent wafts over from the flower beds at the edge of the meadow. Honeysuckle exudes a noble and sweet freshness, smelling a bit like honey and also a bit more like jasmine. The rose is very velvety fine, very feminine. I can hardly smell the mimosa, just a certain lightly bitter powderiness that I would attribute to it. It’s cheerful, carefree, and fresh here. Pleasantly floral.

In the evening, soft music is playing, and you engage in lively conversation, still on the picnic blanket on the always green meadow. Very creamy, balsamic, and relaxed, the musk and chypre accord spread in the base. The chypre note is clearly recognizable, but there’s no earthy, woody moss playing a role here. For my nose, it’s more of a resin that brings a bit more cozy calm. I suspect it’s benzoin resin. Not resinous, not earthy, not smoky, but creamy, sweet, and lightly sweet. All very calm.

What remains is a wonderfully fine floral, very balsamic-creamy, and still fresh-green scent. The ideal fragrance for a lovely day with friends somewhere outdoors in nature. For a Sunday on Saturday.

Fear of Loss - once again
Do you know that feeling? You have only a few drops left in your original bottle and suddenly you experience massive fear of loss? That's how I feel right now about this fragrance, which I certainly don't wear that often. But every time I apply it, I realize again why I love it and - no, I don't want to be without it.

Balmy Days & Sundays is yet another fragrance that doesn't really fit my usual preferences. Flowers, grass, and chypre are not my favorite notes. Those girls that Eternity described in her post? I'm definitely not like that. But those arrogant girls usually smell like flowers.

It happened as it had to. I received a sample of this fragrance from another fragrance lover. Without any expectations, I tested it and was simply blown away. I wore the sample occasionally and even received compliments. Oh dear. I think I really need to get this one.

After Chemical Bonding (which I've now also finished), the second overpriced Ineke fragrance moved in with me. And then one that really shouldn't suit me at all. But that just confirms again that we have a quirk, right?

But it doesn't matter. We love each other, Balmy Days & Sundays and I, even though I find it quite intense immediately after spraying. There's something sharp that comes through, but it quickly dissipates. What remains on the skin is simply undefinably soft and beautiful and definitely not typical floral or girly. You can just sink into it and enjoy this delicate, creamy powderiness that surrounds you for hours.

I particularly like the fragrance for client visits, as I usually prefer sweeter and smokier scents, which could clash with clients. And I think it fits perfectly in spring as well as late summer.

Whether I will repurchase it, I haven't decided yet. I actually didn't plan to, but what do I care about my chatter from yesterday? :)

Love this on paper—it's sweet and green in an intoxicating, almost bubblegum-y way. On my skin, it's all freesia, which cheapens it for me.

Green grass turns to a nice lightly sweet and soapy floral with a musky base. Decent hot weather green floral. Pretty short on my skin.

You lie on artificial grass scented with real plant juices. Charm between chemistry and nature. Friendly!

Green synthetic bomb for people living in cities with 5 million inhabitants or more who have never been in nature. Strange illusion.

A floral scent trimmed with old-school vibes and plenty of green accents. Subtle freshness for the office or as a daily companion. It doesn't convince me.

Can't complain, green-floral spring scent. I don't find it fresh, more sweet. Fam. Tester M thinks it smells like soap.

A somewhat chemically reminiscent green Nivea cream! The association with "Balmy" somehow fits - undecided.

Green, fresh, juicy at first with a few flowers. Later green and rather synthetic. Not a scent I need. The finish isn't for me.

The sun is shining, the grass is freshly mowed, the bees are happily buzzing around, what a perfect summer day in the outdoors!
