the fresh, wild song of spring and its quiet serenity
In the last few days, I had the opportunity to test some green and woody fragrances. Idyllwild was an addition.... but it wasn't really about that.
It wonderfully captured me and effortlessly conquered me with its quiet serenity.
The fragrance opens with fresh green of spring and early summer: grapefruit and rhubarb are intercepted by lavender and guided toward the forest. It is bright and inviting, in my imagination a sun-drenched mixed forest, stretching toward the sun, as if just awakened. The scent is light, but not fleeting, and certainly not insignificant.
I can't distinctly pick out the individual trees and shrubs, but they seem alert, friendly, and welcoming. I enjoy the walk, the cheerful activity and buzzing of the forest dwellers... the letting be of one another. The scent has something meditative, without being dreamy, something grounding, without becoming dark, something protective, without becoming sweet or heavy, something spicy, without being kitchen-herb-like. Another reviewer here mentioned a "fruity earthy note" - I think there's something to that.
In some description of the scent components, I also read that in the base, alongside musk (not particularly strong), there is somewhere a giant sequoia. That seems to be the moment I particularly enjoy, and which gives me the feedback that I smell like bark. Good reason.... to want it.... absolutely.
The scent has its own forest magic - I don't experience it as mystical as some resinous, patchouli- or incense-influenced forest scents (I don't know many yet, but some fragrance descriptions here suggest that it can sometimes be dark and earthy).... and yet it conveys a unique charm to me. It offers a certain clarity, calm - and lifts the mood. The forest is healthy, cheerfully showering me with needles and leaves... encouraging a barefoot walk.
That's where I want to be.
“In all the trees and all the waters and all the green bushes, it lives, it chirps and rustles and hums and sings and splashes, everywhere the fresh, wild song of spring resounds.” (from: Ronja Räubertochter, Astrid Lindgren)
------------
According to INeKE's description, the fragrance is a tribute to the natural wonders of California, named after a small mountain town (with a beautiful name). The woody components of the perfume are meant to capture the scent impressions of a road trip that started from there through the surrounding nature.
A herbaceous-spicy scent. In my opinion, due to its light freshness, absolutely unisex. Wonderful in the warmer season.
------------
With heartfelt thanks to the robin for the fragrance experience (I’m here fiddling with the last drops of the sample while longing for the ordered bottle)!
