salty sunbaked incense
this was my favourite from the progressive botany discovery set so i've treated myself to a bottle and have been wearing during late summer in scotland, i've realised that i really like dry wood scents with a little sharpness or sweetness but nothing cloying, and this is just that. dry, fragrant woods with a strong savoury olive/salt note and a light sharp berry note

Salty woods in a sunbaked landscape
Out of the Progressive Botany discovery set, this (along with Carduus) is my favourite. The medullary rays are on the inside of a tree trunk, and I find them a fitting reference for this exceptionally dense perfume. The notes stay close together, not many are individually discernible to me. But where that kind of compactness could have a muddy, dampened effect in other perfumes, here it is a virtue. The thick chorus of notes sings the story of Medullary-Ray particularly effectively. Where Arborist takes us to the cool, coniferous forests of the North, here we are in an unmistakably Mediterranean atmosphere. Sun bears down hard on these trees, everything moves with calculated languor. Cedar, fig leaf, and briny olives are the notes that stand out most to me. In the very opening, there is an intriguing funk as well that I attribute to valerian. Guaiac and/or myrrh contribute a lacquered, rubbery, vaguely medicinal aroma. Together, they smell like no perfume I have come across, but their strangeness is alluring rather than unsettling.

Roses by the peat fire
I got to know this fragrance through the Discovery Set Progressive Botany Vol. 1. I liked the idea of smelling my way through fragrances of Scottish origin.

Immediately after spraying it on, the fragrance smells rather herbaceous and almost disappointing to me at first. But a minute or two later, a pleasant smoky note becomes perceptible, which initially evokes in me an association with weakly dosed birch tar. This beautiful note is very present on my skin for the next 20 minutes and shortly afterwards reminds me of a cozy peat fire by the fireplace. About half an hour after the first spray, the herbaceous notes from my initial perception begin to interweave with the castoreum and incense to form a pleasantly soft, slightly smoky carpet of fragrance. Later on, the fragrance takes a slight turn towards rosebuds that are still faintly perceptible, but this does not have a disruptive effect. This is because it adds a subtle, flowery green component to the slightly smoky scent.
An interesting fragrance with a surprising scent development for me. Unfortunately, however, with rather modest longevity. Nevertheless, this fragrance makes me curious to get to know more fragrances from this house.

I wish I got the dry forest, but unfortunately I don't. The only Jorum I couldn't stomach, smells to me like burning tires - I really can't

Heavy dry wood, it's as if a forest is about to catch on fire. Absolutely perfect for a lumberjack.
