After Hugo has once again made quite a splash up there
Well, many will probably know Sun Men. A Jil Sander fragrance that at least has something relatively distinctive and, in my opinion, reminds very intensely of sunscreen. Not quite my thing, but at least solidly conceived and created.
Of course, I wondered in advance what one would want to do better, more interesting, or even differently with a flanker like Sun Bath Men to at least somewhat stay true to the original.
The result is worth a sniff, as long as you don't set your expectations higher than the sun. And while Sun Men is the olfactory companion for a bright summer day, I would rather see Sun Bath Men as a scent for the evening, perhaps after sunbathing, when the big yellow hydrogen-helium ball has already turned blood red and is sinking on the horizon.
Well, the indicated grapefruit gives the impression that it might have been lying on the stand a bit too long and has already dried out. The other notes also don't come off excellently at the start, but after a little while, when all the ingredients have somewhat sorted themselves, Sun Bath Men feels pleasantly fruity with orange blossom and a light apple aroma, benefiting further from the well-tempered woody notes and the sweet benzoin.
This is exactly where the composition reaches its zenith, although some may complain about synthetic undertones that hardly matter. Others might take issue with the fact that this flanker secretly embodies a slight homage to giants like Le Mâle or Joop Homme, but that too would be worth ignoring, despite my suspicion that this is likely the sweetest representative of the current(!) Jil Sander range for men.
In the drydown after sunbathing, everything remains quite smooth in a not overly exaggerated Dolce-Gusto mode.
I like it anyway because it has such a relaxed positive summer evening vibe, and you can't complain about its projection or longevity.
So: have a nice summer!
