Interesting Facts
Vanilia is the first perfume in which ethylmaltol (reminiscent of caramel, cotton candy, butterscotch) was used, and thus it had significant influence on the subsequent development of the gourmand genre. Maltol occurs naturally (when malt is roasted, hence the name). Ethylmaltol is a synthetic variant, the four-to sixfold increase of the caramel impression.

Vanilla Wafers--the ultimate comfort food
L'Artisan Parfumeur VANILIA has apparently been discontinued, but I reviewed it a while back and happened upon the remaining milliliter in my sample vial while looking for something else. Apparently some people regard this perfume as a masterpiece (ahem). It smells to me most like vanilla wafers, which I happen to love, although I cannot say that I've ever considered dusting my body with their scent. I suppose that I could pulverize them and see how that works... Another reviewer has reported that VANILIA calls to her mind banana pudding. I'm wondering whether she may be confusing the smell of vanilla wafers--used to line the pie shell of a banana pie--with the banana cream proper.

All good Americans have tasted this dessert, a veritable institution of middle class suburban culture, and particularly prevalent in parts south of the Mason-Dixon line. It's basically a layer of vanilla wafers on top of which sliced bananas are placed before being covered with what is usually vanilla pudding. Yes, that is what VANILIA is to my nose: a comfort food, not a great perfume! (-;

Vanilia
This fragrance starts with an accord made of vanilla and ylang ylang. Reminiscent of Vanilla Galante, this fragrance is sweeter and heavier than the Hermessence. The two notes, spice and floral, are well-blended and harmonise perfectly. Underneath the two note I detect a trace of amber which gives the fragrance depth and a slight saltiness which boosts by contrast the vanilla note. As the fragrance progresses, it sheds most of the vanilla note and all there remains is ylang ylang framed by amber and a touch of vanilla. Now a true floral, the fragrance is soft and feminine, perfect to wear on a spring or early autumn evening. As the fragrance dries down, it gets fuller and softer, the floral note slowly fades and amber and sandalwood characterise this last stage. Lasts for hours on my skin.

Vanilla seduces
What did I write in my "preferences"?: I don't like explicit vanilla scents!
I hate the overpowering, almost aggressive smell of vanilla in cheap scented candles and bath oils, room fragrances during Christmas time, etc. Vanilla often comes with a kitschy candy sweetness. Terrible! Even the vanilla gourmands from Comptoir Sud are too one-dimensional for me, lacking in refinement. So, a tricky terrain for me.
When I became interested in your opinions on L'Artisan Parfumeur, I noticed the almost hymnic reviews for "Vanille Absolument," and intrigued by that, I dared to take a sniff test. I did have "Vanilia" under my nose, but by the time I realized that there were actually two vanilla scents in the line, I was already vanilla-seduced and on a sniffing trip, so to speak, hooked.

Kankuro has described the process well: the first accords are indeed almost green and fresh, but then it quickly becomes softer and rounder, until the vanilla opens up wide and velvety.
I can understand the association with sweet, sexy banana, but I smell a much stronger burnt caramel, which gives the vanilla a soft brown depth and calmness. The amber note keeps it from being prickly and jarring, from greedily pushing forward.
That's how I like vanilla, and the "hmm" factor is quite high.
I am now very happy to have been seduced by you Parfumos to vanilla. I can hardly believe it.
What else might be coming my way?

very beautiful
Thanks to the lovely medicine who left me a leftover bottle of this delicious fragrance.
I am completely enchanted, I have always loved vanilla perfumes, but this one is truly something special. Namely for adult women. Not a cheap vanilla that smells like scented candles, but a very gentle, noble scent, and the sandalwood and ylang-ylang give it that special touch. This morning, after spraying it on, the scent surrounded me all day, light, not overpowering, and every time the fragrance wafted into my nose, I was genuinely delighted to realize that it was me who smelled so wonderful.....
Ah, I am completely in love. Finally, a vanilla scent without that annoying rubber note that I have experienced in many fragrances of this kind.

Beautiful!
Ylang Ylang and vanilla describes it quite accurately but much spicier than the Ylang Vanille from Guerlain Aqua Allegoria.

Very floral vanilla... In my opinion, the Ylang Ylang is more dominant than the vanilla itself.
I've never smelled anything quite like this.

The name is not just a program, because alongside a lovely vanilla, ylang and sandalwood also come into play. I think it's great.
