Wonderful mint but...
Its a great mint+citrus combo. Opening is beautiful, but then quickly fades to nothing. Smells very natural.

It's more an EDC than EDT. If this lasted more than one hour it'd me between my top ten summer. Unluckly it has almost zero lasting power.

Tolerable
Verdon is the aquatic fragrance for men in the L'Occitane lineup. However, Verdon is more of a care line with various creams and balms, while the Eau de Toilette is somewhat of an afterthought.

Now, L'Occitane presents itself with a down-to-earth, rustic image. Entire lavender fields are supposed to come to mind for the customers, as southern France and Provence seem to be central themes of this brand in my perception. How on earth does a synthetic aquatic fit into that?

L'Occitane cleverly sidesteps the issue. Yes, there is a synthetic freshness in Verdon: Calone, Hedione, whatever it is, is definitely in there. But it is overshadowed by long-lasting light citrus notes and especially mint, and there's a bit of lavender as well. The woody base note is not bothersome.

So I can just about accept an aquatic like this. Before someone follows through on the threat and buys a pack of Bulgari Acqua Marine or an Annayake Undo at Douglas, please gift them a bottle of Verdon! Friends shouldn't be left in the lurch, and at around €35, Verdon is not expensive at all. The freshness-loving friend, thus spared from worse options, may not receive a great perfume, but at least an aquatic that, with its relatively natural appeal, keeps colleagues' nerves calm and might even earn a compliment or two.

Here come the midsummer scents now...
...*sprayyy*, *I breathe*, *lying in the shade*. Phew, feels like the hottest day of the year part 2. Verdon, a welcome cooling unit. V is slick chemical. It’s already beautifully glaring here, a high-tech peppermint note spreads out. Artificial cooling to defy the heat. I feel with a few decent sprays of this olfactory air conditioner like I'm opening a deep freezer (you know, one of those really big ones in the supermarket) and holding my nose inside. A cold front hits you there and you can hardly breathe anymore. So, just a little less drastic, I perceive V.

Now V deviates a bit from the Occitane program, as O is more in the direction of naturalness, but whatever, at the moment I need cooling (no matter where it comes from, currently 23.3 degrees room temperature and *ice coffee cup*) and nothing earthy.

The longevity is such that you have to spray again often, but whatever, I accept that too. The cooling effect when reapplying is always worth it. Luckily, V is one-dimensional, just peppermint freshness cubed to the power of 3. No frills, no nonsense, I forbid any scent above 30 degrees.

The sillage is such that you first cool only yourself and maybe the people standing very close around you. So basically a private fan, not a solidarity olfactory ventilator.

The bottle appearance is also something I don’t care about in this case. I don’t find it the epitome of elegance, but cooling units are just ugly.

So it’s slick peppermint frost that can absolutely provide relief for a nose seeking coolness here.

Fortunately, it also adds that V is somewhat elegant. So smooth and sterile - one could also attribute a bit of disinfectant aesthetic to V - it definitely has a noble restraint. Understatement paired with tasteful presence and style confidence.

Cool elegance (what a cliché expression) characterizes V in its arctic conception.
For dates in the Sahara, V won’t let you down.

Only the best in the bottle
Verdon, the currently latest fragrance from the brand L'Occitane, has a hard time standing out from its predecessors.
Especially in Germany, the sales of Verdon are rather sluggish, while in France and the USA, it is doing quite well.

But is it really that much worse than its legendary brothers in the brown glass bottle, or could it be the price?
The latter might be more fitting when you notice that Eau de Baux costs 46 euros for 100 ml compared to 36 euros for 50 ml.

It can't be the scent itself, even though it has not been rated positively by some previous reviewers.

In addition to alcohol and water, Verdon also contains pure peppermint oil, sea buckthorn oil, and real wormwood of controlled organic quality.
This, in turn, leads to a moderate longevity, which can vary from skin to skin.

My predecessor wrote the headline "Spraying Wrigley Spearmint," and there is some truth to that.
Unlike many conventional products, the mint is not chemically manufactured, mostly combined with cocoa, vanilla, or chocolate to create a sweet or oriental scent (amber).

This is not the case with Verdon!!

Verdon contains pure peppermint oil just as you can buy it in its natural form.
As a top note, you find "this" very intense, which may seem quite unusual and possibly off-putting to some noses.
But peppermint oil smells like that and not like chocolate or vanilla.

In the heart note, pure lavender flowers dominate - L'Occitane uses only the flowers, not the stems, to achieve an unadulterated lavender scent.
Even though the heart note carries the lavender, the mint remains, and dry cedar finds its conclusion.

If you want to know how lavender unfolds, I can warmly recommend Lavande EdC from L'Occitane, as you will find just that in Verdon.

Basically, Verdon is on the right track, but in Germany, it has the worse cards because many prefer chemically manufactured mint with chocolate or vanilla or simply do not like peppermint oil.

To return to my opening statement, it is currently the latest fragrance since Cedre Oranger & Co. are from the Grasse collection.

Conclusion:

For peppermint lovers and fans of natural lavender, it is an absolute must-have, and of course, for all L'Occitane enthusiasts.

Saltwater River Scent Leads Through the Cote D'Azur
The L'Occitane saleswoman confidently guided me towards Verdon, even though I was actually just briefly in the shop to see if Eau de Baux was still available. Verdon would be perfect for these temperatures, being an exceptionally masculine aquatic and also affordable. I've rarely encountered such a pushy saleswoman, especially at such a renowned company. But she wasn't wrong, as Verdon is a good aquatic. However, neither the scent nor she could blow me away or convince me to buy it. Despite the good price-performance ratio.

Verdon is dedicated to a French river through the Cote D'Azur and skillfully radiates that glamorous summer feeling. It starts citrusy and refreshing, later mixing in some relaxing lavender (typical of L'Occitane) and mint. After about 30 minutes, the heart of the fragrance emerges, and it only partially convinces me. An aquatic saltwater breeze. At least it's saltwater and not some strange brackish water from Amsterdam like with some failed aquatics, but I just didn't like this part as much. Maybe it's due to the much-criticized synthetics. But this doesn't stop me from loving, for example, Cool Water or New West, and besides, nowadays the thought of synthetic-free perfumes can be put in the fairy tale category anyway. Still, there are of course qualitative differences.

The bottle fits more into the wellness world, where the scent also originates. The sillage was very weak, and the longevity was well below 6 hours, more around 4.

A good wellness aquatic that doesn't do much wrong, but also absolutely doesn't stick in your memory.
