Well Roared - Loewe
To be honest, the company Loewe has not really been on my fragrance radar until now. None of the scents I know from this traditional house have truly convinced me so far. More or less by chance, I stumbled upon the very appealing images of the new fragrance series "Un Paseo por Madrid....." a few weeks ago.

The idea of capturing the impressions from walks through Madrid or visits to interesting places and sites in a fragrance was original but also challenging. However, it was primarily the appearance (gold-colored shiny contents in elegantly shaped bottles) that piqued my interest.
Creating desire through visual appeal - 1:0 for Loewe!

The problem or challenge now was just to somehow get my hands on these new fragrances. All the sources I knew in both brick-and-mortar and online retail led to dead ends. Nowhere was there a hint of where these fragrances might be available in Germany.

In the hustle and bustle of daily madness, my note about these fragrances initially slipped my mind. That was fine, as overly frantic searching often does not lead to success. Sometimes, fate deals you the right cards.....

During my last visit to Hamburg, of course, a visit to Alsterhaus was a must. I love the unique charm there, which reminds me a lot of Galeries Lafayette in Berlin. And the Guerlain counter with the very competent and warm staff has really captivated me. As I was leaving, my gaze happened to fall on the Loewe stand and something shiny and gold-colored..... Could it be possible? Could it really be that the fragrances from the Madrid series were just sitting there?

Yes, they were. Now I must confess that at that moment, it didn't excite me as much anymore, since I had already had a "long fragrance day" behind me, and at least my nose was not as receptive anymore. Everything has its limits, including my sense of smell.

The saleswoman was very nice, told me a bit about the fragrances in the series, and sprayed them generously. But nothing really thrilled me anymore. Somehow, a test strip with "El cielo sobre la Plaza de Oriente" found its way into my bag.

And that very test strip was about to do its magic! I have rarely experienced a fragrance that lasts so long on paper. This one seemed to have an especially long-lasting quality, as even days later, it was still wafting a heavenly scent throughout my home office, where I had placed it after my return. Remarkable! Impressive!

It was working in me. Of course, I was annoyed that I hadn't even tested the fragrance on my skin. How silly. Blind buy? Hm.... what if it doesn't smell good on my skin? And how and where? Okay, there was no way around it. I was 100% sure that this fragrance had to smell good on my skin too. It couldn't be any other way! Why? No idea, I just knew it!

Now, all that was left was to send an email to Alsterhaus, and lo and behold, prompt response, and yes, they also ship fragrances. Well then, there you go!!

Shortly thereafter, the package from Alsterhaus arrived. Beautifully packaged, many samples, and even a miniature were included alongside my new fragrance treasure.

Even while unpacking, pure joy over the elegant folding box in which the fragrance "resides." Or rather, reigns. Because the bottle is truly a feast for the eyes, feels good in the hand, is elaborately designed, and crowned with a gold-colored cap that vaguely resembles a crown. Visually, a total hit!

But now, of course, the more important question is whether I was right in my fragrance assessment or if I had made the most expensive mistake ever.

To get straight to the point: I was right, and how!

The opening is characterized by neroli and tangerine. The sun of the south (as neroli is often called) exudes a sweet and orange scent that immediately captivates and enchants me. Ginger gently ensures that the fragrance does not drift into overly sweet territory, creating a healthy balance.

Orange is definitely the theme of this fragrance, which is also evident in the heart notes. Delightfully fragrant orange blossoms combined with the remaining top notes are flanked by jasmine and ylang-ylang. A white-orange mixture, so to speak.

Or rather, an absolute power mixture, as the fragrance is very present, expansive, and immediate from the very first second. Definitely not a wallflower, but more of the type "Look out, here I come, make way!" I wouldn't have expected that, but since the fragrance card on my desk also effortlessly lasted several days, I am not surprised by this impact now.

So please be very careful with the dosage! This Spaniard could easily turn into a sillage monster!

As it enters the base, the lively activity calms down a bit. Amber (delightfully soft and cuddly), a hint of cocoa (dark and sensual), and moderately used incense take some speed and temperament out of the fragrance, grounding it in a very pleasant way, giving it depth and a unique character.

Figuratively speaking, the fragrance transitions from the shimmering heat of the day to a cooler evening.

While the fragrance was initially impetuous, loud, and cheeky, it "matures" in the base, becoming more adult without losing any power. It now radiates a proud and natural elegance without appearing arrogant. Magnificent!

The Plaza de Oriente is located on the eastern side of the royal palace in Madrid and is a popular meeting place in the evening with its restaurants and street musicians showcasing their talents. During the day, the shady square invites you to linger.

And these two poles - a place of relaxation and lively activity - are perfectly reflected in "El cielo sobre la Plaza de Oriente." Essentially, it is a very lively and vibrant fragrance that later finds its calm.

This fragrance has totally convinced me, and during my next visit to Hamburg, I will certainly have to sniff the other fragrances from the series a bit more closely (and with a fresh nose), because at least this one is also a little piece of Spanish vacation for home ;-)

What am I still doing here?
I have been to Spain in person twice, nearly 25 years ago. Each time just for a few days, as a crew member of a large, well-known sailing ship of the Navy. When we docked in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, we were greeted, alongside the usual pomp and circumstance, by a group of children from the local German kindergarten, waving flags and singing songs. I stood on the aft deck among a bunch of tough guys with jutting jaws, and I fought (apparently as the only one) against tears of emotion. The always meager shore leave - pure harassment: as if there was really anything for the radio operator to do in port - hardly allowed for more than an excursion to Pico del Teide. About two weeks later we were in Vigo. We meandered aimlessly through the city for a day; it was already late autumn and comparatively uncomfortable. That was it.

My more recent olfactory visits are much more enjoyable. Because in terms of scent, I have already visited the evening Sevilla (Séville à l'Aube) and now Madrid. And both with lasting enthusiasm. If it really smells like that there… Wow. I have to go there! What am I even still doing here?

Formally, the two fragrances have some overlaps, not only in the paperwork but also in their main theme: Orange-Jasmine-Amber. And yet they are fundamentally different in character. While the Andalusian - oh, what: the Andalusian woman! is a very feminine, erotic lady, the colleague from the capital comes across like a leisurely stoller, thus the title of the series is well chosen. However, the path does not seem aimlessly thoughtless, rather quite self-assured and attentive, simultaneously relaxed, as perhaps only Southern Europeans can live.

Strangely enough, when I think of this relaxed stroll, a piece by Johann Sebastian Bach comes to mind, specifically the beginning of the chorale "Zion hears the watchmen singing" from the cantata "Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme," BWV 140. However, for the present comparison, it MUST be listened to in one of the slower versions; the slowest (which is unfortunately still too fast) that I found online: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3sj-NKqR0tw - it starts at 14:40 min.

Regarding the scent development in detail: A bit of citrus to start. Perhaps a little bergamot; of the mentioned notes, neroli fits best. But almost immediately, the reign of a gentle orange blossom begins, it definitely leans more floral than fruity. Almost caramel-sweet on one side, yet always with a slight twist towards seriousness.

From late morning onwards, the smokiness is noticeable. It is incredibly good how the sweet orange is roughened and drawn into the bitterness. The most important component to make the scent truly unisex. Taking away any hint of overwhelming opulence. Nothing against lush fragrances, just everything in its time. A stroll through Madrid is not the right occasion for that.

The amber, from noon onwards, also benefits greatly from the smokiness. Without it, it would be quite sweet, but as it is, it is extraordinarily elegantly done. Dark, resinous, almost spicy - yet gentle. That might be a contribution from cocoa, which I do not perceive independently. With a lot of restraint, bright frankincense complements the mixture from the eighth hour. Additionally, I suspect cedar for the base. Equally casual and elegant.

Conclusion: Great. The Séville à l'Aube would honestly be considered more feminine. The Plaza de Oriente doesn’t care at all about such classification attempts. And for those who appreciate the Séville as an evening scent, the Plaza de Oriente is practically a must-try.

I thank Gerdi for the sample!

SUMMER for the "language learners" among us...
* Summer in the city
*
I run naked through the English Garden
Sitting high on the Monopteros
I buy myself a Mass at the Chinese Tower
And stroll with you on Leopoldstrasse
I sip an iced coffee at the Rialto
And watch the young hares
I think my boss has to do without me today
Yes, I much prefer lying in the grass with you
It's summer again
Summer in the city
I run for fun through the fountain at Stachus
Walk through the pedestrian zone all wet
I look at Japanese tourists
At the Glockenspiel in Marienplatz
I ride my bike to the beach at the Isar
Lying on the gravel stones at the beach
I sit in the beer garden outside in the Waldwirtschaft
And quench my sunburn with a Mass
It's summer again
Summer in the city
**

Yes, soon it will be that time again! A great song that brings the summer feeling so close, like hardly any other. And this scent adapts perfectly!
Jasmine, orange blossom, and ylang-ylang are almost overdone in most fragrances, which makes my nose quite sensitive, and that's why I always keep a bit of distance. But here..., here it is so incredibly balanced - no, I think it's more like measured - that it fits like a glove. Cohesive, simply cohesive.
It smells like "warm" city in summer, ice cream parlors, beer gardens. Just that "summer scent." Do you know what I mean?
Ginger and incense are wonderful. They give this fragrance a certain "something," a spiciness without being intrusive or smelling like a spice cabinet. Amber is barely noticeable, and cocoa adds a bit of "dryness."
A walk through Minga - "The sky over Schwabing" - sorry, but I'm mentally in my hometown right now, and so many memories explode like little lightning bolts in my head *g*
The scent is something different. Not just fruity or spicy, definitely not oriental. It smells fruity-spicy with that touch of incense and ginger. At first, the orange blossom is very strong with ylang-ylang, and the other notes are in harmony. After a while, it becomes spicier, a bit sharp-spicy without biting, but hmm... so pleasantly herb-fresh-spicy with flowers that invite summer in.
A great summer scent, and I wouldn't share it with a man *g*
Although it would certainly smell just as great on a man as it does on me ;-)
Yippiiiieh - it's soon summer in the city again!

Finally!
The people of Madrid know their weather, they prepare for it, and that's exactly what we are doing now.
For our walk under the light blue spring sky and radiant sun, our bag is packed: sunglasses and sunscreen (it's too beautiful and yet still too cool to stay in the shade), the open-air styrofoam seat cushion: the decrepit back of the "Princess and the Pea" reacts sourly to hard park benches - so we take precautions; this "press cake" from Gendarmenmarkt isn't heavy and doesn't take up much space.
And a warmer jacket: up on the plateau, the wind can get quite chilly, and after all, it's only spring!
Off we go!

How the scene on the streets has changed: people are out and about!
It smells of life, of something "to go," and everything sounds like joy.
People suddenly have faces again: noses and even mouths, with which they can smile and perhaps even greet!
This is how freedom smells and sounds: the feeling of being out and about again without a muzzle and leash, simply enjoying the moment!
The chairs in the street cafés are occupied; dishes and glasses clink, conversations and laughter rise up: towards the wide sky and the sun.

We have decided to visit the Plaza de Oriente; with the first ice cream cone in one hand and a cup of hot chocolate in the other.
Like many other people, we want to spend the warm sun rays on a bench in this generous green space in royal surroundings; well aware that the square, after the demolition of the houses, is so spacious that, even with the still somewhat low sun, we won't have to expect shade too soon.
A bench, just as desired, is soon found, and the switching of the two hands between ice cream and hot chocolate is now also working without leaving too many stains!
Ah, how beautiful and warm it is, and just ...!
And look: even here, people are out and about, chatting and smiling!
From this so-called "Royal Gardens," on one side is the Palacio Real, and on the other is the Teatro Real.
Only the third in the "royal" trio, the home of the "royal" or "white ballet," is missing here:
the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu - briefly called "Bernabéu" - where Real Madrid wins or loses, we are (thankfully) searching for in vain.

Finally, we have feasted our eyes and have the leisure to devote ourselves to the wonderful scents that have been caressing us for some time: spring, with all its floral and fragrant splendor, has also arrived here.
The potted plants, now no longer threatened by frost damage, are in bloom and already bear some first fruits.
A pleasantly fresh hint of tangerine and noble neroli floats in the air; it is lightly spiced by warming ginger: it tickles the nose!
Jasmine and orange trees, shaped or trimmed into decorative forms, are already bearing flowers.
They waited a long time in greenhouses and orangery under glass for their big debut.
Out onto the Royal Square, enjoying the sun and life, and enthusiastically throwing the fragrant aromas into the warm air - how good that feels!
Ylang-ylang has also joined them: a fresh and floral spice caresses us with every gentle breeze: here, hugging is allowed.
The hot chocolate in the cup contains a high cocoa content, and thus this fine sweetness additionally envelops us.
(Ah yes: The Spaniards brought the cocoa beans from South America to Europe!)
Amber and incense drift in smoky waves over the square again and again: where could it be from?
The sunny weather apparently invited to open the doors of the nearby churches wide and lure the sunbeams into the sacred darkness.
The hope-filled spring on the plaza thus gets a sacred touch!
The Plaza de Oriente breathes life, warmth, and fragrance - how beautiful!

My always so lively imagination and my waiting for sun and warmth (not just for a few hours) paint this fragrant picture of longing, while "Un Paseo por Madrid - El cielo sobre la Plaza de Oriente" (phew, what a name: Now I need to catch my breath!) comfortably settles on my skin to stay for a few hours, accompanying me.
Hours of well-being spent chatting, laughing, and pure joy of life.

The fragrance house Loewe from Madrid manages to inspire me to take a walk through this pleasantly cultivated scent, painting vivid images and pleasing all the senses.
Fragrances that tell beautiful stories in their pretty bottles are something I have always loved!
Over the years, I learned to listen to them more closely; to fill them with colors and sounds, with life.

I thoroughly enjoyed this stay under the sky of Madrid on the Plaza de Oriente:
The sun, the warmth, the scent, the different bird songs playing hide and seek in all that greenery and rejoicing when they have found each other.
Perhaps the next walk will end on another bench, in another green space, the ice cream cone filled with different flavors, and the cocoa refined with a splash of "warmth from within" - I look forward to it!

K.O. in the First Round
Disclaimer: The title of this comment should not be misunderstood!

When I first fell in love with fragrances, I often had the pleasure of sniffing through the top-notch selection at Vollmar in Bonn, which was of great help in moving away from boring designer scents. There is a wonderful saleswoman there whose name I unfortunately do not know.
She first carefully mapped out the terrain of my taste with some suggestions before precisely addressing my preferences.

On the day in question, I must have tested about 40 fragrances before my nose was completely saturated.
But I didn’t want to leave, and it was clear that I would stay...

Yes, a nice song that quite well describes my mood that day.
I made one last loop through the sales area and, oh, what is that? Lion? No, Loewe after a friendly correction of my German pronunciation, not knowing that it is a Spanish product. I don’t remember why I chose El cielo, but it was definitely the right choice.
The top note really knocked me off my socks! After that, I sprayed my T-shirt well to also enjoy this wonderful creation at home.
And indeed, the scent is made for me! Until then, I had only experienced this with three other fragrances: Oud save the King by Atkinsons was the very first time, then Black II by Widian, and finally Star Musk by Xerjoff (which olfactorily and price-wise plays in a different league).

I tested it two more times, and it convinced me completely each time. The following week, this red sign with "-20% on Everything!" was hanging on the outside wall of the store, and I couldn't resist, especially since I actually had enough money (which is rarely the case as a student). K.O. in the first round.
The scent is nowhere to be found for under €200, so it was quite a deal to get it for really €40 less and not like it often goes with the fabricated percentages on the internet or at the Turquoise stores....

Long story short: A real steal that I really enjoy wearing!
The top note is simply phenomenal, Ginger, Neroli, and Tangerine are having a lively trio.
And what I also find really great about this scent is that it has a real progression.
The top note lasts about 10 to 15 minutes, then the heart comes through.
I didn’t notice the strong Jasmine in the heart at first; it’s the only thing that bothers me just a tiny bit, but it also fades away at the latest an hour after spraying.
Then the wonderful base of Amber, Cocoa, and Frankincense comes through, which lasts a long time on my skin. Unfortunately, my nose gets used to scents quite quickly, and after two to three hours, I hardly perceive it anymore, but I have had several confirmations that it can still be perceived quite well after 5h+.
My solution: spray on the back of the top, then every now and then, nice scent waves come to the nose, but you don’t get used to it and can still smell it after several hours.

Conclusion: Anyone who likes citrus fruits, cocoa, and frankincense should definitely give it a try!
