Good bye Englands rose, benvenuto rosa italiana!
Even though the temperatures by the Mediterranean can be similar to ours - the climate is simply different. And so do all the plants, flowers, and trees smell different than here. Just the cypress trees, whose scent I find pleasant in the sun by the Mediterranean, smell musty to me here.

But the roses also smell quite different by the Mediterranean than they do here or in England. If I take Elisabethan Rose as an alternative to Le Rose, I have a pretty good example of that. While Elisabethan Rose reflects the fresh, green air of England, Le Rose showcases the entire sensuality and warmth of the Mediterranean climate.

It is opulent and voluminous, floral-sweet and sun-ripened. Le Rose is quite reminiscent of La Rose de Rosine, but it is not as multifaceted as that one. Le Rose is more of a dark red, velvety rose in full bloom, whose impending end is already perceptible.

Even if Le Rose is not the most beautiful rose I have encountered among fragrances, it is a wonderful soliflore, a tribute to the most beautiful flower in the world.

Who has never loved has not lived.
Some say love it is a river
that drowns the tender reed
some say love it is a razor
that leaves your soul to bleed

Some say love it is a hunger
an endless aching need
I say love it is a flower
and you its only seed

It's the heart afraid of breaking
that never learns to dance
it's the dream afraid of waking
that never takes the chance

It's the one who won't be taken
who can not seem to give
and the soul afraid of dying
that never learns to live

When the night has been too lonely
and the road has been too long
and you think that love is only
for the lucky and the strong

Just remember in the winter
far beneath the bitter snow
lies the seed that with the sun's love
in the spring becomes the rose.

Bette Midler "The Rose" - about the short, intense life of Janis Joplin.

Le Rose by Mazzolari is just like this song.
Deep, emotional, melancholic, yet full of love and tenderness.

The top note is slightly sweet, rosy, fresh, zesty, and innocent.
The heart is heavy, an intense, fully bloomed rose note with warm sandalwood, it expresses such a wealth of feelings, comparable to what I have only experienced in Serge Lutens Sa Majeste la Rose, only Le Rose is silkier, less woody. Apart from that, the rose here is more mature - and smells as if it has only seen sunshine its whole life, so round and full and beautiful. But its life was very short, it has been picked young, in full beauty and bloom, having given its life for art.
The base is there to tame the rose, with a slightly soapy, clean musk note.
The rose dies once more, slowly exhaling the breath of its short life, and we can enjoy its now only olfactory beauty until this drop too is just a memory.

R.I.P. Amy.

Starts green; a successful rose scent, becomes slightly indolic-waxy+soapy. Sandalwood fortunately balances it out positively-creamy.

The opening is a bit strict with green accents.
As it develops, a bright & soft rose takes center stage.
Simple, but beautiful!

A lovely rose scent on the go. Unfortunately, it only says hello briefly and then moves on.

What it says is what you get: Rose, presented as a soliflore, with the other ingredients just highlighting it. Nice, yes. But also unexciting.

Naturalistic depiction of a spicy rose variety - with thorns and woody stems
Dried rose between the album pages at the end

It's like burying your nose in a dark red, fully bloomed rose, intense, rose-sweet.
In the dry down, it's nestled in old school musk. Oh,
