What a journey!
Today I am at the end of a journey that started 12 months ago. And what a journey it has been! 365 reviews in 365 days. I remember when the thought first struck me. It seemed crazy, almost impossible in the beginning but my interest and curiosity towards perfumes drove me forward and helped me accomplish.
Some days have been easy, the review almost writing itself. These days have offered a story about when, where or how I met the perfume and what impact it has had on my life. Other days it has been hard to decide which one to pick or it has been hard to write anything at all. I have written about likes and dislikes, both icons and scents that are easily forgotten. Most of the fragrances are in my collection but some are decants and some are lost loves, bottles of empty… scents I miss.
So here i am.
What has this journey brought me? Definitely a more adjusted and perceptive nose. I am able to decipher notes from others far better than when I started. And since I have forced myself to review scents that I am not a huge fan of, I have also met notes that I did not know existed: cocobolo wood for instance. I am also more sure about what I like in a perfume. And I have changed my mind about some of them. Especially the old perfumes dated earlier than the 1970s. I dare say that my taste has broadened quite a bit. I appreciate more notes now than in the beginning. And I have found some new combinations of notes that work for me.
My review no. 365 is on Mercedes-Benz Women edp. Yesterday I picked up my new car, Mercedes EQA. When I opened the trunk, a pink box was lying there and my partner stood there with a secret smile. He had bought it for me. “Make it your review no. 365”, he said. He has been with me all the way and commented on many of my tests. We certainly do not agree on all of my fragrances but it has been helpful to hear his comments and try to understand why we perceive a certain perfume so differently.
M-BW is an Alien clone. A good one. A fresh one. Actually a bit fresher than Alien. But Alien is, to me, a really interesting scent and for reasons unknown M-BW is not in the same league. But it is good and wearable. The bottle is cute. I understand so well that Mercedes-Benz want to be a part of the fragrance world. And the alliance with Honorine Blanc has definitely been a really good match. But in my opinion the fragrance is too pricy. I would spend my money on Alien.
So - will I write reviews again? Most definitely. It helps me develop and keeps me sharp when it comes to investigating a new scent. And I still have some 200 more fragrances in my collection that need a story of their own.
