Scent Stories Vol.1/Ch.11 - Moon Dust MiN New York 2014 Eau de Parfum

I was looking for a gunpowder fragrance and Moon Dust was suggested as a possibility. I can say for sure this is no gunpowder fragrance. I was not able to really detect unique notes. Seems to be pretty well blended. Also is very linear; did not change over its life. The fragrance itself is rather unique. Nose to skin, the best I can describe it, smells like dusty wood with the smell of cooking farina or grits. Weird, eh? In the air though, it has a dusty earthy type of scent. Longevity is pretty good while projection and sillage is more moderate after the first hour or so.

For me, it was just an OK scent. Nothing that I'd bother with. And it didn't match either as a gunpowder scent.

Could one ever recreate the scent of moon dust? I believe each of us imagines it differently: and this fragrance, let's say, does not represent my vision.
But... it is unique, and I liked it.
I certainly wouldn't attribute it to the moon, but rather to the planet Mars, because I find it slightly metallic, yet warm and woody in its accords, with spicy notes that give it color.
I also smell woody notes, which make it even more enveloping, but with a strong personality; in short, it is not a fragrance for everyone.
Absolutely worth experiencing, I find it truly original and pleasant.

Moon Dust opens with a sharp kick of black pepper and spice before the mineral notes start creeping in. There’s dirt underneath it almost immediately, dry and dusty rather than damp. The tobacco adds smokiness and gives the whole thing a dark, atmospheric feel.

As it wears, the spice dries down with almost a star anise quality to it, cool and aromatic. It becomes very earthy and metallic, like handling iron tools with dirt still under your fingernails. It feels less like the moon itself and more like digging something up that probably should have stayed buried there. This is everything I wanted Eau de Luna to me, much more wearable and evocative.

A great and unique perfume. Especially for lovers of dark, dry, earthy scents, burnt earth, tobacco, patchouli and musk. The fragrance reminds me of Black Tourmaline by Olivier Durbano, with more earthiness and less incense.
A truly unique creation. Additionally, the projection is very high, and the longevity is quietly around 8-10 hours.
I recommend it to all who like these atmospheres because it is worth having in your collection.

Nothing more and nothing less than Naomi Goodsir’s Bois d’ascèse – or a similar “dry synthetic contemporary smoky” scent - with a sprinkle of resins (and maybe violet too? I smell something powdery). Basically a hypotetical “Bois d’Ascèse Amber”. Warmer, more “medicinal” than that, but that’s it. Now, this at least smells nice (which, for my experience with this line, is a win already), albeit showing the same feel of “unsubstantial, rushed incompleteness” of other MiN scents... but I don’t see any plausible reasons for spending nearly twice the price of Bois d’ascèse to get a minimal variation out of it.
