Unfortunately, anyone who wants to learn about this fragrance must click away. Of course, it was my intention to publish a detailed or helpful comment about this or another creation from Welton, complete with all the details.
The reason I did not do this, or could not do it, is rather mundane. At the GAoP 2017 in Düsseldorf, there was also a small stand for this label. The glossy black monolithic bottles piqued my curiosity, and accordingly, I introduced myself, came out as a Parfumo member, and politely asked for samples. Generally, it is the case that you don’t immediately get the red carpet rolled out for you and are led to the champagne bar in a private room, but at least the perfumers or representatives find a kind word, appreciate the attention, and are happy to provide samples and marketing literature, more or less generously. Not everyone knows Parfumo, but when you talk about our online platform, you usually receive quite positive feedback.
After all, most recognize the added value for their fragrances and are grateful for a bit of publicity.
Not so with Welton. If I’m not mistaken, John-Paul Welton himself was even present (or someone who looked remarkably like him), who swiftly made his escape at my inquiry and was not seen again. Consequently, I spoke with his friendly English-speaking assistant, who understood my request and said that she might (!) send something, which has not happened after half a year.
OK, it can happen - but it is quite unfortunate when you want to introduce or promote your label. All the others are much more clever and on the ball. So, it doesn’t surprise me that I have yet to find Welton fragrances in the local perfumeries. Perhaps they simply want to ignore the German market after negative feedback and/or later insight. I could have done the same with Welton, and somehow, one is indirectly still advertising for the brand, but this way, everyone knows what I think of this behavior.
Sure, I could have tested the fragrances just as well at the stand, but with the multitude of olfactory offerings at such a fair, one can quickly become overwhelmed more than one would like. And in hindsight, one is always wiser anyway.
