Maritime Elegance with a Short Breath
The Coastal Cypress & Sea Fennel Eau de Toilette effectively surprised me; particularly because I was not very familiar with the brand, but also due to the quite exciting DNA for the price range. Well, the scent is meant to be a tribute to the fresh-maritime breeze. An aquatically green-tinged fragrance.

Now, let's get into the scent itself:

- In the opening, fig leaf and bergamot play together in a refreshing and invigorating way; very fresh and sparkling. The maritime undertone is already present with the sea fennel, which has a slightly spicy-herbaceous scent; definitely very fresh.

- As it develops, a bright floral jasmine note emerges, which together with the cypress appears very elegantly, but also simultaneously spicy and green. The maritime notes, however, remain in the foreground and are the main player; nonetheless, the interplay of maritime notes and this floral-spicy base is very beautiful.

- In the drydown, a woody base accord comes in, softened by gentle musk. The green cypress subtly lingers and retains this freshness even in the final phase.

- A point of criticism is the longevity and sillage; it is really below average, even for this type of DNA. If rated "positively" here, the rating could even be one point lower.

Well, the scent is a great summer fragrance that is quite unique in its DNA, but unfortunately too short-lived. I think, however, that for the price, one can spray it on nicely; definitely not everyone smells like this, so it is something special.

In Defense of Its Honor!
Since the only existing review so far has left this fragrance in a rather poor light without any further details, I feel compelled to do something for its defense. I, in fact - oh wonder - do not come close to such a devastating judgment but am, on the contrary, quite taken with Coastal Cypress & Sea Fennel Eau de Toilette!

Caution at this point: EdT and EdP have slightly different fragrance pyramids! The two versions differ in more than just concentration!!!

Today we have 28°C with a felt 80% humidity in NRW, so I am testing under hardcore summer conditions!
The start already makes me do a little joy-dance. Fennel, cardamom, and fig green (no fruit! Important!) create a dry, green, spicy combination. I don't really perceive bergamot or any other citrus. I feel reminded of "Ichnusa | Profumum Roma," but a bit softer. Very nice!

As it develops, the green-spicy aspect recedes a bit, and dry wood and even more salt come into play. How great to create a sea-scented fragrance without the typical 0815 shower gel aquatic! Salty water on sun-kissed skin, nothing sweaty, no annoying algae (yuck)! The listed evil V and incense (not really my favorite) are not really noticeable - otherwise, they would be prime candidates for disruptive notes. Jasmine and musk also play a very minor role. Cedar instead of sandalwood - thank God! My joy-dance continues.

I would describe Coastal Cypress & Sea Fennel Eau de Toilette as aromatic green, salty, and only a little "typically aquatic." On my skin, the fragrance is wonderfully fresh, herbal, salty. Very unisex! Zero sweetness! Anyone who liked Wood Sage & Sea Salt Cologne will surely find this one appealing as well. Mareld also goes in the same green-spicy-salty direction. Just to provide 1 or 2 comparisons. I have been testing all sorts of unisex cypress fragrances for a while now, and most, like "Blue Cypress | Goldfield & Banks," still feel too masculine or remind me of pine bath additives.

The longevity is like that of unfortunately almost all salty fragrances, where endless wood is not just thrown into the base, but only in the airy area. I would give it 2-3 hours, which I find okay in really warm temperatures. The sillage is also rather close to the body.

Return to sender
First impression: By no means as refreshing and herbaceous as described. Rather unpleasantly sweet and cloyingly woody. Not a typical summer fragrance. At least not in the way I expected based on the ingredients. I don't notice any green "feel-good scent" either. With good will and a lot of effort for my nose, I can detect something aquatic. Unfortunately, it’s just not enough to provide me with any relief in over +30°C. But ultimately, that doesn't matter because one of the components triggers a severe sneezing fit for me anyway. Regrettable, but this fragrance is truly no masterpiece. Probably an apprentice could have done better.
Conclusion: Return to sender!

A slightly briny aquatic with a distinct herbal-green undertone, and a hint of licorice-like spice from the fennel.

The strangest thing about this one is I never expected it to work in fall on a sunny day, and it stuck around way beyond the expected time.

The aquatic notes are way too overpowering to me, a bit strong and harsh.

Warm-spicy herb garden amidst bluish shimmering stones. The sound of the sea is just a whisper from afar.

Many fragrances promise what this one delivers: It smells like sun-warmed skin by the sea. Totally without, brrr, skin accord. Beautiful!

A hint of aquatic & summer forest. So Italy. Probably with a surfboard under my arm through the pines. Beautiful... already gone with the waves.

Mature cypress-vetiver scent. In my eyes, it has signature character. Smells like an everyday companion. No wow effect, but nice.
