French Country Life
A hypnotic rendition of a chateau in the country, surrounded by lawns, herb gardens, forests and fields of hay. A tinge of grapefruit in the top keeps it from being too heavy, as does vetiver in the heart. Tobacco lends a bit of smokiness and oak moss makes it mossy, though this is not a classic chypre [bergamot-oakmoss-labdanum]. Another truly admirable perfume from this house, but for me not a buy. It feels a bit muddled to me though many may not think so. In recent sniffs from de Nicolai, my nose fell in love with Fig-Tea and and Kiss Me Intense, both of which I anxiously await.

Lemony chypre with herbs
I would place "Vie de Chateau" between "Eau Sauvage" and "Diorella". It is a lemony chypre with a herbal touch.
The start is uplifting and gorgeous, fresh, simply wonderful, but the drydown is not 100% up my alley... this might be due to the herbs Patricia de Nicolai used (tarragon, cistus, some other "herbes de Provende"). There's a faint hint of leather, too, but it remains in the background. Given the fact that this is an Eau fraiche, the lasting-power is good (about 3 hs). Not my favourite Patricia de Nicolai scent, but better than many others in the field.
