Well done citrus scent, but a bit soulless
I can't decide whether I like this one or not. There's not much to complain about, maybe just that in the first minutes there's something coniferous besides the citrus that sends me room freshener vibes. But it passes quickly.

The scent is well made, that yuzu smells to me like a sweet and juicy tangerine had a baby with a green and astringent lime, from a certain point on it sweetens up a bit and I get something vaguely floral, like apple blossom, maybe magnolia, something in that direction.

The technical qualities are quite exceptional, especially since it's labeled as an Eau Fraiche. It lingers longer and projects stronger than many of the eau de parfums I know.

It's just, I don't know, somehow impersonal, soulless. I feel exactly the same way about the various Aqua's (Universalis, Vitae and whatever, I lost interest at some point) from MFK. Objectively, I can find some good qualities in them, but subjectively, they leave me totally indifferent. At least Mrs. Nicolai's Eau's are not that outrageously, painfully overpriced.

Alain Delon
Eau Sauvage flashes immediately. In its current formulation. This juicy, dense, radiant, slightly corporeal lemon. The vibe is very similar.

It reminds me even more of verbena here. A yellow Nimm 2. But without the crystal-clear lemony sound. A bit more subdued. With a subtle bitterness, gentle soapiness, and something slightly green-spicy that recalls leaves. Grapefruit and yuzu fit in. Already full-bodied citrus, but lightly touched. With a delicate dissonance, because underpinned by a hinted sweaty spice with a sultry texture. Cumin is not listed, but the impression arises. In a soft, moderate form. A reminiscence of registered, classic French men’s fragrances in the style of ‘Eau d’Hermes’. Its corporeality at a quarter intensity. Alain Delon by the swimming pool with a casually draped towel over his shoulder.

In the drydown, the green-spicy-soapy continues in the restrained, softly mossy-woody base. The corporeal-sultry aspect from the slightly animalistic wood, which in some aspects reminds me of the - in my view - somewhat unpleasant indolic-carrion wood note in ‘Un Jardin sur la Lagune’. However, very subtle. And only perceptible on the test strip or very close to the skin. Not in the projection, as the citrus impression clearly predominates throughout. However, it is somewhat special. Here: Delon in a tweed jacket with elbow patches at a dinner.

Overall, this creates a slightly sultry, green-spicy tinted, and subtly soapy, aromatic citrus scent. Very classically appealing. Harmoniously composed and valuable. Fits like tailored clothing. For lovers of this fragrance direction and especially of Eau Sauvage, an absolute recommendation to test. Jo Malone’s ‘Grapefruit’ serves as a reference point in terms of perceived age. Also in terms of scent character, although the Nicolaï is softer and hardly evokes Chypre associations. In terms of habitus, it is also distantly related to Parfum d’Empire’s ‘Azemour Les Orangers’. Not as pronounced, as it is a bit less sweaty and herbaceous and more Cologne-like, but similarly refreshingly indifferent to current trends.

A bit too classic for me, but aside from that, a stylish, dense, very pleasant to wear, elegant citrus understatement.

You’re (almost) doing everything right! / A little tip from me!
Hello everyone,

Tonight, I would like to briefly mention a fragrance that is perfect for these warm days and is almost (!) a little insider tip, it’s about "Eau de Yuzu | Nicolaï / Parfums de Nicolaï".

I’ll get straight to the point = we are talking about a very fruity, citrusy, zesty, and refreshing scent with a beautiful transformation... = after the wonderful opening, it becomes green - woody - earthy (pleasant) and then towards the end, we have a clean musk.

An almost perfect blend for the warmer days!

But why only almost?

If the opening lasted another 20 minutes (or longer), it would already be in the 9.5 range, but as it is, it’s really quite good.

The sillage is okay, and for warmer days, I don’t long for those 8h, 10h, and longer beasts. A fragrance during this time should refresh me, and it does, and I am also very grateful that it is "quiet"..., because I personally find it rather unpleasant in the summer months when a fragrance radiates "strongly" (personal opinion), which is why a lot has been done right here.

UNISEX?

Registered and usable as such, yes!
But I do see it (clearly) leaning towards being more masculine,
this is, however, purely a subjective opinion.

If I really weren’t convinced, I wouldn’t recommend it to you!

And now have a nice day/evening or whenever you read this review, best regards, Benny

Am I glad,...
...that I treated myself to it! My heart is soaring, summer is unfortunately still nowhere in sight. No matter. Contrary to my intentions of not wearing a summer fragrance outside of summer, I spray it on in the morning before work, and again at noon, even though I still perceive the super scent of tangy Yuzu and especially the Vetiver as it dries down. How must it be in summer? I hardly notice the Patchouli, so no worries, it remains totally fresh and rounded in my nose. Yes, maybe also classic. But fine, absolutely my cup of tea (even without tea)!

Sour Makes Fun
And another Nicolai that I have fallen for. The house is really good!

During the first half hour, you can have fun guessing the tropical fruits: the scent starts with a prickly, quite sour lemon, then drifts over to juicy but still slightly sour grapefruit, and becomes noticeably softer; I would have guessed Physalis, but unfortunately that’s not the name of the fragrance, so it’s probably Yuzu (I really can’t tell the two apart scent-wise). It doesn’t get more yellow-orange than this.

Once the fruit trio has exhausted itself a bit, the scent becomes REALLY wonderfully aromatic: bitter juniper (I’d say more leaf than berry!) and vetiver, with just the right dose of musk for a summer fragrance (which is quite little). I would have suspected ginger as well, but it’s not in there at all... Luckily, there’s no patchouli to be seen, and it’s not missed. Wood remains in the background and only serves as a longevity supporter.

Fresh and crisp and absolutely not sweet! Perfectly suitable for summer thanks to the absence of flowers, and in my opinion, it’s 1a unisex even though there’s currently an 80/20 distribution here on Parfumo. Ladies, give this one a chance!

Summer citrus cologne. The heavy petitgrain gives off such an old-school vibe that the yuzu/grapefruit twist hardly gets noticed

Bright, uplifting yuzu with a dash of fresh spices and woody base. Well balanced whole fruit between bitter rind and sweet juicy flesh.

straightforward, fresh, clean scent for those that like it. to me, it has a note of winter melon.

A sharp lemony burst settles into a simple yuzu scent. Not innovative, just straightforward citrus for hardcore fans.

In the drydown, the grapefruit clearly overshadows the yuzu and lemon petitgrain, which you have to like: for me, it's a great summer scent.
