Not the Fig for Me
I’ve tried this a few times, and I just can’t love it. The complexity is there and the notes aren’t *wrong*; they do describe the scent I experience. This just isn’t a version of those notes that brings me joy.

I’m definitely getting a realistic fig leaf, but somehow the overall impression is soapy-powdery rather than green. A friend of mine compared it to Shalimar and I can kinda see it.

Freaky Fig
On paper I did not like it at all. Thankfully I kept it around and gave it a try on skin! It needs the warmth of a body to bring it to life. It’s a photorealistic fig: velvety, mottled purple skin encasing earthy, creamy sweet flesh with crunchy little seeds. It’s a very wild, natural fig, not at all tame or polite. It can even be a little raunchy - several people raised their eyebrows when they smelled it. To me, this is a perfect end of summer fragrance - read Margaret Atwood’s poem “Late August” to catch the vibe.

Meadows in May
This is profoundly relaxing, and incredibly unique.

As it opens I get kitchen savories and crisp vegetal notes. I'm not sure, but it's like celery, marjoram, parsley and maybe even a bite of cucumber, but all very natural - unconventional greenness.

As it dries the greens remain, but I catch the fig blended with black currant. They combine into a fruitiness that remains warm and comforting, not quite jammy, but authentic and far from cloying. If you dislike fruit generally, I'd recommend this even so, it's never a huge blast and is unlike many designer fragrances in it's approach.

An indistinct warm undertone carries this along and rounds out the fruit&greens; and we're it not so I'd think this was unbalanced and too thin. As it is, it's still not a "thick" fragrance and there's an understated grace about it all. So much is done with only 4 notes.

As I've mentioned, it's warm. It reflects summer, but think I'd prefer in spring when things are still a little cool. Maybe 55-60 degrees and mild. I'd bet it would sing in April-May, and I'll try it then. It's nicer indoors so far than it is outside, the winter air is unkind to sweet Elektra.

Also, longevity is insane.

Early Autumn in the Mountain Forest
It must be my nose.
Or my skin.
Maybe it's my expectations, which have popped up in the radiant spring sun of the last few days like soap bubbles, exuberantly shimmering and dancing in the gentle breeze that brushed my hair and whispered from bare arms, from the grass beneath my feet and wide-open flower cups.
I wanted summer, to hang my winter coat in the farthest corner of the closet and pull out the sandals, to be annoyed by pinching skirts and declare war on winter weight.
I wanted to dream of endlessly long days, lying lazily in the sun, with the scent of flowers and fruits in my nose, the herbs and grasses in my garden - and opened the vial to Ellen Covey's midsummer daydream.

I can see her grinning, the good Ellen, hear her question in my mind: "Don't you know me yet?" - and I sigh in agreement.
I should have known better.
Not to rely on what is written on the little vials, to leave my expectations and associations aside in the certainty of experiencing another surprise and finding myself in places I hadn't anticipated.
Because Ellen simply does not sit in a deck chair, sipping iced lemonade and watching the bees and flowers.

When Ellen Covey dreams of summer, she packs bitter-sour fruitiness into camphor-minty cooling agents and sets off through woody greens - dark fig leaves, dry cool cedars and cypresses, and currants with leaf and bush open the way up into the wooded mountains, where transparent veils of incense weave through the closely standing trees.
It is cool and shady up there, just a few steps further already sun-drenched and warm - the wind carries the scent of peach trees and wild roses from the valley before the next breath fills the lungs with coniferous clarity.
Up and down we go through the early autumn mountain forest, whose dry woods connect with the green along the path, repeatedly enriched by the scent of berry bushes, whose plump dark fruits tempt to linger and nibble.
Sometimes, when the wind shifts, a hint of incense-wrapped peach brushes against me, leaving me puzzled about its origin, making me doubt whether it is being or illusion.
And again and again, Ellen's smile flashes, her signature, the "Coveyade" - that oily-spicy-dusty accord that reminds me of the atmosphere of a third-world shop in almost all of her fragrances and makes her so unmistakable to me.

Our hike lasts a good six hours, constantly shifting between bitter-woody, green-camphor accords and moments of fruity sweetness, never sticky, never sugary, until the sun sets in a gentle orange-red and Ellen wraps a feather-light, slightly vanillic blanket around my shoulders - it was a beautiful day.

I think I'm in the woods!
Encouraged by Ergoproxy's comment (and because I really appreciate the scent of amber, orange blossoms, black currant, and vanilla), I ordered a sample of "A Midsummer Day's Dream" from Olympic Orchids Artisan Perfumes, among others.

It worked wonderfully, and now I absolutely wanted to satisfy my curiosity about this fragrance!

So, fresh to work and quickly applied a few drops of it. In joyful anticipation of my personal summer daydream, I lean back in my chair and already imagine smelling orange blossoms and all the delicious components when suddenly...I felt like I was sitting in the woods!
No trace of the delicious fruits for me, just a penetrating scent of cypress, cedar, and fig (with the fig being the most pleasant component)!
I don't understand the world anymore and initially try to ignore my wrist. It'll be fine!
But unfortunately not for me! After what felt like an eternity, the forest scent weakens and becomes a bit "nicer" (could that be the amber or vanilla?), but I can't stand it any longer...and declare this trial a failure for myself.

I assume it's due to me/my skin that the fragrance is not as it should be (and as described by Florblanca and Ergoproxy). Well, tough luck!

Despite everything, it's once again a very interesting experience to see how differently the same fragrance can develop on different wearers. And that's how it should ultimately be.

Oh yes, what connects me with my two previous commentators is the assessment regarding sillage and longevity. At least something ;-))

Spicy tutti-frutti opening. Interestingly, fig leaf + blackcurrant and the amberwoody base give Sauvage-sans-pepper vibes - not unwelcome.

Minty/spicy greens, bitter cassis, eucalyptus. Some amber in the drydown. Smells like a bath salt or mouthwash, better kept in the bathroom.

Greens and overripe fruit. Smells very natural and warm, good for summer.

Summery! The amber is a little tarot shop-y, and the fig leaf almost comes in like mint.

Black, plump berries brushed by heavy branches. Ink-sticky fingers. Dark green and bitter, the late summer wind rustles through the bushes.

Elektra is popular with the hippies. Bright colors and lots of hippie patchouli oil. They make tea and other nice things from the herbs.

Strong, green stuff,
as my husband nicely puts it.
Quickly turns fruity.
A prickly berry that dives into
the green. Takes some getting used to.

Fig leaf is at the center, while cassis quickly fades away. Beautiful scent with the OO-typical resinous-earthy note.
