Ambra an elegant, hypnotic, opulent and rich Amber fragrance. Ambra opens with sparkling citrus, orange and vanilla, not my favorite opening but the drydown of Ambra is gorgeous. Vanilla, Incense, Patchouli and Labdanum just divine.

The scent of conquerors.

This is a fragrance that drives you out of hiding. Out of every dungeon. It immediately brings to mind the prisoners' chorus. An escape and a desire to storm the White House. Or the Bastille.

A demanding rum. Cannonball. With animalic notes. Animalic from dark fruit. From mash, rose mash, and green bark. Amber on the carriage. Then a throw with round, fine orange. Small threats with green bergamot. Cinnamon incense of a Christian kind. Now right in the midst of the action. Festive mood.

Wrapped like for Robinson

As a child, I had a little book called 'Living like Robinson - A Thousand Tips for Adventurers.' It was published in 1980; I was nine years old then. Despite the vanishingly small likelihood of ever finding myself in a situation far from my Schleswig-Holstein hometown that would require such knowledge, I not only read it but studied it with a zeal as if the serious situation were imminent. I suppose all boys do that.

What has particularly stuck in my memory - undoubtedly due to the tactile aspect - is the chapter about protecting matches from moisture. The red tip should simply be dipped briefly in liquid wax and thus coated with a protective layer. I immediately made an entire tin full of such prepared matches. So far, so good. Unfortunately, I - by the way - was unable to ignite any of them after removing the layer. I bring this up because 'Ambra' feels as if it envelops me with a protective layer. And the association with wax is not coincidental, as I indeed think I can recognize wax.

But first and foremost, amber and ambra must be mentioned. The interplay between these two ingredients is wonderfully sensuous and enlightening. Alongside the warmth of amber, 'Ambra' is undeniably slightly animalic. This not only keeps the fragrance reliably away from banality, but upon closer sniffing, it actually has quite a bit to it. This is not just about cuddling. This is by no means in contradiction to my impression of a protective layer, see the last paragraph.

In my perception, the fragrance otherwise relies on fewer ingredients at its core than the notes might suggest, while the others seem to play a more character-strengthening role, including the entire smoky faction, which largely remains hidden from me.

The fragrance development of 'Ambra' is rather a gentle shift in focus. Vanilla emerges, along with unsweetened, dusty-powdery cinnamon. I suspect that in the second third, secretly scratchy geranium gives the perfume that depth which initially was the responsibility of the animalic aspect of ambra.

Also very well done is the pleasantly herb-dusty balanced amber-vanilla finish. While the appearance is now somewhat typical for many such fragrances, some others start like this or reach it quickly and end in flat vanilla. Offering such a finish as a conclusion - that has style.

I said 'Ambra' is not a simple cuddler. Nevertheless, it radiates a trustworthy intimacy. The apparent contradiction is illustrated by comparing it to a "normal" relationship, which, despite all occasional, unavoidable, and indeed necessary inner frictions, is unconditionally protected on the outside.

Amber Golden Dream!

In my search for my ultimate amber fragrance, I came across the company Omnia Profumi. A small price promotion in an online shop unexpectedly gifted me a scent that nearly brought me to my knees….
What an artful mélange of fresh lemon and orange oils, spices of all kinds, with a worship-worthy cinnamon bark that isn’t even listed.
The flowers of lavender and geranium are hardly perceptible, so perfectly are they embedded in this full-bodied, sweet-smoky cuddle dream.
In the base, a delicious, luscious rum note is cushioned by bittersweet vanilla - soft, sweet-sexy, but without any heaviness.
I think I have found it - my perfect amber….
Sillage is in the medium range
Longevity easily 10 hours
Wearable for both genders except in high summer
Day and evening fragrance!

My Unintentional Blind Purchase

At half past eleven at night, I was actually already in bed. But a few days ago, that was different.
My phone had given up the ghost, and I had scoured the internet for reviews and offers,
looking for a new device. Once that was done, my head was spinning, and I wanted to treat myself to the lovely "Cristallo di Rocca" from Iparfumerie, which I sorely missed in my collection.
So I went to the site and added it to the cart, ordering 100 ml right away.
Then off to bed, hardly paying attention to the order confirmation.
Two days later, I received the shipping confirmation, but it said Ambra and not the one I wanted.
I had indeed ordered the wrong fragrance.
Okay, never order when tired again, and the Ambra goes back.......... I thought.
When the package arrived, curiosity won out; I unwrapped it, sprayed it on, and......... bull's-eye.
I was immediately smitten by this beautiful scent.
Right after spraying, you can smell the amber, but also a bit of freshness from the bergamot, a little orange, and more of the spice from the lavender. My favorites Opoponax and labdanum also play nicely.
Then the amber really kicks in, but not animalistic and dirty, rather warm and soft. Underpinned by patchouli and a lovely vanilla note.
A little later, it also becomes quite gently smoky, not in the foreground but in the background.
All the ingredients blend into a wonderful whole on my skin.
Right at the end, when the scent is about to leave me, it reminds me of the smell of the face powder my mother used.
It was in a golden mirrored case, and I loved to sniff the application sponge.
For me, this unintentional blind purchase is a hit; this warm, spicy amber scent is here to stay.
However, this will not tempt me into further blind purchases.
Interested ladies and gentlemen can test it; I consider the scent to be absolutely unisex.
