Chewy Snickerdoodle Cookies, Atop Pistachio Icecream Served by a Kindly Lady Wearing Baby Powder
This is achingly caramelic, with notes of burnt sugar, two types of natural smelling vanilla bean pod and coconut whipped cream. This is pleasant enough and low-to moderate sillage enough to wear to bed in winter time for a snuggly comfortable feeling. It reminds me of Snickerdoodle cookies, cream and all things innocent and gentle. The middle of this fragrance is a soft powder puff similar to Keiko Mecheri's Loukhoum and I suspect Serge Luten's Rahat Loukhoum (though I haven't gotten to sample the latter yet). As this dries down it becomes less sweet and more floral/ powdery and a gentle vanilla musk dominates. I don't find it boozy, or golden brown and crusty buttery enough for a truly mouth watering gourmand, such as Serge Luten's Jeux De Peau. It begins to remind me of Laura Mercier's Crème de Pistache lotion, which has a creamy nutty spumoni element. The one thing that bugs me about this fragrance is the name... It is apropos of nothing. Madera is the Spanish word for lumber (wood)- (this has nothing on L'artisan's Bois de Farine). So perhaps the disambiguated meaning from the Portuguese madeira, or maybe from ?ód? in Poland or one would associate it with the Madeira the semi-sweet fortified Portuguese wine made in the Madeira Islands. For me, this Madera has no connection with any of these likely connections, it definitely doesn't cut it as a reference to Madeira wine anymore than Prada Candy does- this is the non-alcoholic version of a nightcap. Given the hefty price-tag, weak sillage and unremarkable bottle design...well, if you love sweet caramel and powder scents, definitely sample, but I remain unimpressed.
