Spicy and pleasing One Million

Fragrance description: The fragrance reminds me a bit of YSL la nuit de Lhomme in combination with the normal One Million. Sweet and spicy is a very good description. However, I don't find it smoky, as others have described it here. Maybe I'm already a bit hardened by the Amouage Interlude 53 :D

Fragrance progression: The fragrance starts directly with full power cardamom spice and a sweet mandarin. It can only be compared to the normal One Million to a limited extent. The Royal version is definitely more mature due to the spiciness it brings. The fragrance also remains sweet and spicy until the end, only with pleasant lavender and sage notes added later.

Compliments: I have already received several compliments in the office. My wife also likes the fragrance. I think most people will like the fragrance.

Longevity: The fragrance lasts about 10 hours on the skin and a few hours longer on clothing. But you would expect that from a perfume concentration.

Sillage: Unfortunately, I don't notice the fragrance as well after a few hours. but I have also received compliments where I could no longer smell the fragrance on myself. Unfortunately, it makes me smell-blind at some point. But that doesn't mean that it's the same for everyone and that others can no longer smell the fragrance!
Usability: I think it works for everything. Even for everyday office life or summer, if you don't spray much. The pleasantness of the fragrance is also very good.

Bottle: The bottle looks nice, but the quality is, let's put it mildly, very inferior. The integrated sprayer in the bottle is unfortunately no better. But maybe I'm already too spoiled by my Amouage or Creed fragrances.

Price/performance: The retail price is around 120 euros for 100 ml. (2024) If it's on offer, you can buy it without hesitation. The only thing I find a little outrageous for the price is the bottle. Looks are definitely not everything.

Overall assessment: I would rate the fragrance 8/10.

1 Million Royal - The most complete of them all

1 Million Royal represents the most mature version, the best blended of the line as well as the best all-rounder. This can be worn any time, any date - except for summer in very warm or high heat and the formal meetings. It can be worn during the day, during the night and even at the office, but you will have to be careful with the sprays.

The scent itself can take some people to a gourmand, chocolate direction. I know I was one of them but I perceived it as being close to Axe Dark Temptation (which many of use abused in high school, nevertheless great deodorant scent).
After wearing it many, many times by now, I can definitely say that I don't perceive it anymore as much to the aforementioned deodorant but to something more peculiar and that is: Lonicera caprifolium. Of course, you can search this plant online and for those of you who haven't gotten the chance to smell it, the flower of this plant is sweet and woody, also known as honeysuckle or Italian woodbine. Even so, the scent of 1 Million Royal is not overly sweet, it's actually perfectly balanced.

The performance is excellent. I get 12+ hours on skin (actually I can feel it the next day easily) and if I spray on clothes. it will stay there for days. It has very good projection for the first 2 hours and after that it will create a nice scent bubble around you and will have a magnificent silage, this lingers a long time in the air after you walk by.

The reason I am giving - specifically - the scent an 8.5 out of 10 is because it does not evolve or change that much after the opening but even more because of it's ozonic quality. And this is the catch. Although it does not have ambroxin, it is a powerful performer and as a consequence, as it happens with many fragrances nowadays, you will go nose blind on it. I think it's because of the airy and ozonic quality combined with the punch of the fragrances that makes it feel as it's gone but it actually goes on for a long time and it's also one of the reason why some people feel like going for 8 sprays or more. People around you will smell you from distance with only 4-5 sprays. If you go for 8 sprays with this, you will be perceived like you would be going at a party.

This is my favorite 1 Million from the ones I've tried, seconded by the Parfum. It's not a unique scent, nothing groundbreaking, but a solid release and a true claimer of the Royal name.

Decent flanker more muted than the original but not as striking as its predecessors

1 Million Royal is one of the most recent men’s releases from Paco Rabanne, and the most recent men’s flanker of 1 Million, a more floral and less super sweet departure from the original. To me, it has elements of the flankers Absolutely Gold, Prive, and Lucky, while not being as interesting as any of them (Absolutely Gold is my favorite of the house). Still, I could see this being a bit more agreeable to many than the sweeter original or Lucky. Note-wise, it strikes me as citrus/floral/resinous blend with the result being a sharp/sweet/candied element that plays off of the florals. The result is a toned-down version that is not the loud bubblegum-sweet clubbing scent that the original is, but something a bit more nuanced and better for everyone. Still, it doesn’t feel like something terribly new within the current catalogue, but I’m sure some will really like it.

It’s unclear if 1 Million Royal is sold through official retail means in the US, but it does seem to be available from some discounters. Like the rest of the line, it performs well.

6 out of 10
