"I'm wilting like a primrose..."
...is such an expression when life, in one's own perception, lacks pleasures too much or when one completely fails in a situation. It probably refers to the short lifespan of the pretty colorful primrose pots that are now being offered everywhere, but often only survive briefly at home or in the still frosty garden. I also have 3 of them on the windowsill, but I can't detect a distinct scent.
At first, the scent of "Eau de Primrose" strikes me as quite strange. Childhood memories of my father's hobby cellar with sawdust and the smell of solvents from the paints and glues he had lying around come to mind. Later, the scent seems rather subtle and slightly creamy to me, with a rather peculiar, unsweet floral note. I'm not really thrilled...but perhaps my sample has simply aged, and I'm doing the perfume a disservice.
What really appeals to me, however, is the packaging: a lovely cuboid box with a nostalgically designed floral pattern, which apparently has also been used for other perfumes, e.g. "Night Scented Stock." The bottle itself, with the yellow primrose and the typical ribbon, is also nice to look at. Therefore, "Eau de Primrose" simply belongs in my collection!
