Wait what???
I went to the boutique and grabbed a sample of this. Got home, sprayed it once, and came to the conclusion it is just a nice smelling, mass appealing, modern fragrance.

Albeit well constructed, it does NOT smell niche.

I would like to smell this on someone else to see if i would have a more elaborate appraisal of it.

If my opinion changes, I’ll be back.

The Hall in the Peaks
In the heart of the Peak District...
You go for a brisk walk through the woodland on your estate. The air is filled with the fresh scent of trees, and lush greenery. Leaves crunch beneath your feet, and gentle raindrops patter on your jacket, soon replaced by a warm, diffused sunlight filtering through the canopy above. Emerging from the woods, you find yourself in a clearing, where the distant silhouette of a Georgian mansion greets you.

After a bath, you indulge in a wet shave, using a double-edged razor, shaving brush, and a horn bowl. After, you spritz on The Cut: a blend of mint, lavender, cypress, and fir balsam. It envelops you, providing an initial bracing burst of coolness that revives your senses. It bites.

Dressed in tailor-made brown trousers slightly wider than usual, reminiscent of a 1950s silhouette, you slip into a crisp white shirt and a vintage Hermès tie. A small, discreet watch - perhaps a Patek manual-wound piece, on a leather strap, rests on your wrist. A small, unobtrusive gold signet ring, engraved with a delicate design, adorns your little finger.

You settle into the library, the walls are adorned with large landscape paintings and portraits of figures from history, while worn wooden shelves and bookcases hold leather-bound folios. A softly flickering fireplace casts a warm glow in the corner. Your Labrador is snoozing in a nearby bed.

Putting on your round tortoiseshell reading glasses, you pick up a piece of parchment and an antique Meisterstück. The Cut is creating a subtle, yet alluring aroma, a harmonious blend of fresh, earthy, smoky, and softly spicy notes. It’s a comforting scent.

The scent of the woods lingers on you.

Who are you writing to?

Bridgerton Garden Party
A classic fougère, with a fresh herbal open (mint, sweet basil), a green and purple heart (dusty sage, lavender, cypress), and a dry woody base (cedar, vetiver).

Sometimes I think that as fragrance fans, we can become so overly fixated on the new and novel that we dismiss classic scent profiles...but they're classics for a reason.

While The Cut isn't new or groundbreaking, it's meticulously composed, elegantly reserved, and so overwhelmingly British that I'm surprised it doesn't invite me for tea.

This is Anthony Bridgerton attending a garden party, and he looks (and smells) damn good.

Projection and longevity are moderate, and it's traditionally masculine coded.

If Hogwarts Were a Fragrance
If Hogwarts were a fragrance, it would probably be something like this:
A warm blend of old parchment, damp forest floor after rain, mysterious amber, dry cedarwood, and a hint of spices - reminiscent of enchanted libraries, flickering candles, and the magic that flows through the corridors. A scent that sparks curiosity, encourages bravery, and promises secret wonders. I don’t know why others don’t feel the same, but I stand by it. It’s magnificent. And if I were to attribute it to someone from Hogwarts, it would probably be Hagrid, who is just visiting Hogwarts after a rain shower.

Of Old Books and Past Knowledge
First of all: I cannot confirm all the negative comments regarding poor longevity and synthetic notes. And I have not just smelled it once; I literally live with this scent. After all, I have a bottle at home. Scents often evoke different associations for me than intended. This is also true for The Cut. The feeling that The Cut evokes in me can best be expressed in the following words:
The Cut is like a quiet walk through an old, venerable university library. The bergamot opens the space with a brief, bright flash, like the first sunlight streaming through the tall windows. The spicy coriander adds a subtle movement, as if invisible thoughts are brushing against the shelves.
Soon, the wooden and resinous notes take over the scene: warm, dark, and heavy, like the centuries-old shelves that enclose the room. The coniferous trees outside the window send their scent through the space, and one feels how nature merges with history.
In the background lies the leather of the worn armchairs, interwoven with the dry seriousness of tobacco, reminiscent of long debates and weary evenings. Patchouli anchors the moment to the earth, providing calm and weight. A veil of smoke hangs over everything, as if the past itself briefly becomes visible, reverent, almost solemn.
The Cut is not just a fragrance. It is a place, a feeling. A space where one stands alone and becomes aware that one walks in the footsteps of countless others, and that one will succeed, just as they have succeeded.
Ultimately, everyone is encouraged to form their own image of such a work of art. For art is, as we know, always in the eye of the beholder. I can only provide a first "AHA moment."

Uber macho sage-lavender open (designer smell). Bitter mint (nuance of Elysium Eau Intense), sage/lavender forward dry-down (masc aromatic).

Smells mainly of freshly cut grass. I thought the "cut" was supposed to be like the cut of a suit, guess it's a bit more literal

The best Penhaligon's release in a long time: Fresh, herbal, soft-spiced, gently sweet and well-groomed. Lasts and projects well. Class.

Beautiful mint, good lavender, great conifers.
Cut!
Lataffaesque voice from off-screen.
Sweet, smoky, annoying.
Rose geranium sharp as never before.*

Expanding Penhaligon's Portfolio with stylish old classics has, in my opinion, failed: spicy, woody, fresh green, but too trivial.

This cut is sharp and modern. Fougère reinvents itself. Rhubarb-like, mint-fresh. Beautiful!

125 Regent Street, here I come! A magnificent Gentle(wo)men Fougère of old English style, wonderfully shifting between green and brown tones.

At first, it's a pretty, slightly old-school, herby mint-lavender scent, but soon it becomes thin and chemical (like rinsed-out shampoo at the barber).

Successor to "Sartorial | Penhaligon's," less sweet and more in the direction of a classic fougère.
Perfect for everyday wear 30+!
H/S OK.
