Of Syrup, Smoke, and Wearability..
.. to begin with - I am generally not a big fan of the house (Paco) Rabanne.
So far, no creation from this house has managed to find a place in my selected collection.
For 0815 designers, this house is of course unavoidable and certainly one of the better ones in the budget price segment.
However, that does not satisfy me, and as a trained nose, one might say that there is simply too little of it.
When I was recently on the lookout for something new, exciting, and interesting, I stumbled upon this fragrance here through several connections….
The actual review starts here..
Skepticism. Great skepticism. Greater interest.
New release from the private line .. hmm .. seems to have been treated as a well-kept secret. Why is that? Why do most designer brands do this? Gucci, Bvlgari, Dolce & Gabbana, etc…
Well, after reading the notes here on Parfumo, I did a little deep dive and quickly landed on the brand's website.
Nice visual presentation, a designer high-end typical packaged backstory, and a 20% sale for new customers on a 125ml bottle… Something triggered me with this temptation. The notes sounded like hit or miss, the perfumer has left me cold with everything I have tested so far, the house.. what a thrill! :p
Into the shopping cart with it. Impulsive reaction. Here we go..
A few days later, the fragrance arrives.
And the first negative points for the brand are collected.
The website promises to include a sample with every fragrance, so that one can decide before opening the full bottle whether it suits their taste. Try before blablabla .. you know ..
Customer service does (so far) 0, nothing about it.
Leaves the aftertaste that I already associated with the house in the past and well, then there’s that curiosity again..
“Open it” screams the perfume lover in my head.
Of course! Said and done.
Presentation, Packaging, Quality.
First of all, one must really say that Rabanne has chosen a great, very majestic design for the bottles of their exclusive collection.
The 125ml canister feels good and heavy in the hand and is of high quality compared to other attempts from this brand.
Magnetic closure, good atomizer, and overall an elegant aesthetic!
Fragrance.
After the first spray, a thick, syrup-soaked iris butter/labdanum wave greets you, presenting itself neither too sugary nor too bulky. Very smooth, softly rounded!
After a few moments, a resinous, warm, and smoky layer joins in, adding another dimension to the composition.
Then a dry-looking leather with maple syrup enters the stage, which brings some dark facets. But there’s more happening.
Imagine a harmonious symbiosis of maple syrup, hazelnut, Black Forest cherry cake, and amaretto, darkened and rounded off by smoky, fireplace-like, slightly leathery, and resinous elements. The interplay is indeed very successful and never makes you think of those overly sugary super-gourmands, but retains an extraordinarily interesting and inviting character through its complexity and variety, without sacrificing the beautiful sides of the aforementioned gourmand notes. Let’s put it this way, the whole thing does not have, for me, a headache character like some other gourmands. This one masters its balancing act between modern, trendy gourmand facets and niche with character and depth.
Very commendably balanced, Mr. Bisch.
In the further course, associations with fragrances like Angels' Share Paradis arise, however, as already mentioned, without the slimy, syrupy, biting notes, but with always accompanying smoky undertones!
This one then becomes creamy, soon balsamic, with a cozy, elegant warmth.
Very suitable for winter evenings.
Whether at home or outside.
Its warmth envelops you in cold temperatures without being intrusive.
Its cozy, inviting character brings a relaxed atmosphere to homey surroundings.
Conclusion:
My curiosity paid off, and I can gain a lot from this fragrance.
It’s just fun and radiates calmness. For a gourmand-like fragrance, it is very chic, elegant, and grounded in character. It will be used more often during the cold days! The leather notes and resinous elements provide the necessary variety and bridge the gap between modernity and timeless elegance.
For all those for whom this is important:
I can imagine that the fragrance will also be well received in the environment and will receive positive feedback.
