This fragrance was off my radar for many years until my wife bought it as a present two years ago. Chanel Allure Homme is the perfect scent whenever I want to smell fantastic without being too loud. I realized that I love wearing it in the office, during an afternoon walk, when visiting our friends or simply going for a drink in a small cafe. I just always instinctively go for the Allure. I love it! To me it is more masculine (less sweet) than Allure sport versions, but a bit less sexy than Bleu. The projection and longevity are just perfect, I can smell it on my shirt and enjoy pretty much all the time during my 8 hours shift without irritating anyone in the office. A timeless fragrance! Pure 10/10!

Could this be my first “signature”?

This fragrance kinda snuck up on me. I’ve sampled Allure Homme Sport Eau Extrême, Allure Homme Édition Blanche Eau de Parfum, and Allure Homme Sport Eau de Toilette, but this EdT I discovered only recently. A harmonious blend of spices and wood, an energetic burst of fruit and citrus greets the sharp aromatic aroma of lavender. A spicy aniseed that permeates the dry down, with its wonderful herbal aroma beside the wood. Blended to perfection with a seamless set of transitions from open to close, Jacques Polge created a masterpiece.
When I first started sampling this scent, I was going into it with the mindset of finding a new fragrance to wear to work. Often my scent of choice was Dior Homme (2020) Eau de Toilette, Armani Code Parfum, or Gentleman Givenchy Eau de Toilette Intense, with Platinum Égoïste Eau de Toilette being saved for special occasions. But upon first spray a superbly crafted mixture of florals, wood, and citrus hit my nose and I felt… Better. A fragrance I can wear anywhere? Truly?…
The dry down in my opinion is where the scent truly comes into its own. Balsamic sweetness of tonka, mixes with a deep semi-dry woody aroma, musk and amber making a gorgeously semi-powdery aroma. Lingering florals and the potent herbal smell of aniseed continue to present a wonderful balance of smells to the wood–musk–amber–tonka mix.

A comforting and confident 7hr-8hr range on skin from opening to dry down, easy year round reachability and the added bonus of versatility in almost any situation short of a black tie event. Being a Chanel fragrance, you won’t find this at any discounters, but it’s $130/100ml retail, and to me? I’d pay that over and over again.
I feel this may be one scent in which I can truly call “my signature”, I’m almost already half way through a 100ml bottle in about three months, and I seemingly haven’t grown bored of it at all. Every spray is truly treasured in my eyes.

If you feel you’ve been missing a good versatile wear option, that ISN’T Bleu de Chanel Eau de Toilette? Give this a sample if you can. It’s not the sweet creamsicle bomb that Allure Homme Édition Blanche Eau de Parfum is, has more easy versatility than Allure Homme Sport Eau Extrême, and is more complex than the citrus forward experience of Allure Homme Sport Eau de Toilette.
It’s a fragrance that I can truly say is “for me”, thus it’s a 10.

Sweet serenity

Even though this is supposed to be a masculine fragrance, you have to remember this is from Chanel, which IMHO is the epicenter of class, style and grace. That's what this fragrance exudes. A beautiful concoction of sweet woods and flowery spices with that wonderful Oakmoss and Musk finish that is just fabulous. This is Just my take and I have a few other Chanel releases and this is easily my favorite. There are a lot of notes inside and Allure exposes them all with a decent wear time but a little decant should accompany the wearer if you're gonna be gone the entire day. You don't hear much about this fragrance as there areany flankers on the line as well. Some people may say it's just a nice average fragrance but that is exactly what I love about it. It doesn't scream a lot but you know that it's there as every now and then you get a nice whiff of the difference notes therein. Still can be had at a decent price. This 1999 launch came at the tail end of what I consider the Golden Age of Perfumerie, especially for men. The years are from 1960-2000. After that the decline started, especially when the draconian IFRA started their stranglehold on the industry. No matter just keep buying the vintage versions and that'll be fine. Load up on them because Lord knows how long they'll be around... Chanel Allure... A winner in my book. :) Masculine elegance

Ageless and free...

A wonderful scent of elegance and distinction, the result of a natural blend of citrus essences and spices, topped with what in French would be called a "je ne sais quoi", a mysterious ingredient, perhaps related to its peppery freshness. It has already turned 20 years old, but I would say it is ageless. For me, anyway. And it brings back fond memories of far happier times, when we were free to go out into the world and breathe in all what nature and human maestria had to offer, without fear of tomorrow and one's fellow human beings. Those were the days...

A Chanel that doesn't smell like Chanel

Chanel is well known for his historic nº5 and for great classy and classic fragrances.
Unfortunately, the Olivier Polge era isn't going well and his father's last creations aren't truly classics either.

Bleu de Chanel or Allure Homme Sport Eau Extreme aren't great releases although are the ones that youtubers and young noses know and praise a lot. That's because of this diabetic disease around perfumery. Since late 90's, the fragrance industry started to put out some sweet creations in the masculine lineup. GIvenchy's Pi, JPG Le Male, A*Men, etc...

In 1999, Jacques Polge created this Allure. A Chanel fragrance that doesn't smell like Chanel. A sweet concoction with creamy nuances and some fougere hints here and there. Lavender, bergamot, creamy woods and sweet tonka with a touch of peach. Since his creation, Chanel's masculines changed to a more fresh, sporty and versatile scents for everyday use.

Although not a great fragrance, it's one that is very overshadowed by his little brothers (Allure Homme Sport, Eau Extreme or even Edition Blanche (the best one, btw)) and specially by the Bleu line. This is one of the first good fresh-sweet fragrances that helped change the perfumery that we know today. For the good and the bad. But anyway, this is still masculine and with a 90's vibe. Super versatile, like some of his contemporanies (Boss Bottled, Rochas Man, etc...) and better than the Sport flankers.

I only prefer Edition Blanche over this for a Spring and summer day, but this is great for fall and winter. The only problem is that it was reformulated and it doesn't last so well and it isn't so complex (specially in the opening) like the version that i have (2002 batch), but still, is a good option for a everyday fragrance.

A fragrance that deserves more atention thatn the newer Chanel's fragrances.
