The Surprise
First of all, the following note. The fragrance has been available in a green bottle since the end of 2019 and has also been available on the company's website as a men's fragrance since then.
------
Sometimes you come to something like virgin to child. This is what happened in the end when I visited one of the numerous ritual shops in Germany. Actually, I was only interested in a few hair&body washes plus a shower foam (I find it extremely funny how the gel turns into a nice soapy foam in reaction with air). For me, the focus is actually less on the fragrance and more on the skin compatibility. And since I once had a tester in a hotel and thought he was good, I became a fan of Rituals.
Now there was quite a lot going on in the shop that day and since I didn't feel like queuing at the cash desk, I anchored at the perfume board instead. Now Rituals is not known to me as a great fragrance producer, neither in a positive nor negative sense. My perception was more like the "cheap track". So I went with zero expectations to the individual smelling sticks. I put most of the testers back quickly. But one of the creations, Oasis Verte, I found exciting and since there was a mini version, called Travel, for a slim 14 Euros, I bought it right away.
The following day the first test. The colour of the bottle reminds me of the good old Tsar, which is not a bad omen. The next official act is the removal of the "quality seal Eau de Parfums". Mm, so far so good. As I said, my expectations of the small vessel were at a moderate level despite the trial sniffing, so I pressed the sprayer a few times strongly.
First impulse: I mixed up the bottle. Because what's coming out smells like Terre d'Hermes. I look at the bottle, sniff again and am completely puzzled. The similarity, not to say equality, is striking. Now I can already hear the Hermes fans crying out what nonsense this is, it's just a cheap dupe and so on and so forth. I'm a fan myself (and owner and excessive carrier of Terre), but Oasis Verte is, I maintain, difficult to distinguish in the blind test. So the prelude is completely successful, how does it go on?
Also there my expectations were rather stored in such a way that after one hour there is nothing left. And I have to apologize for that too, because Oasis Verte lives up to its name Eau de Parfum. Even after 5 hours only slight signs of fatigue, the scent lasts enormously well, the freshness is preserved.
In the course of time, however, differences to my beloved Terre become apparent, as the latter then becomes rather woody, whereas Oasis Verte is linear and retains its initial character until the end (which for me is 7 hours).
The bottom line is that I am pleasantly surprised, I never expected this.
The fragrance is a test recommendation for anyone who would like to wear Terre but finds it too mainstream or too expensive. Patchouli friends get their money's worth, I find the vetiver sweet grass perfectly reserved but noticeably dosed. A fine mix that the Rituals people have managed to achieve with their perfumer, respect.
The sillage is enormous in the beginning, I had left my office, To get a coffee, came back and when I opened the door I was deeply impressed. Quite a cloud that had built up there. After 2-3 hours a clear weakening can be diagnosed, but this is not bad per se, because the shelf life is really good, even after 7-8 hours of generous use something still sticks.
And the bottle, yes, as described above, simple but all right, simply nicely done with this stylized wooden cap (which in reality is nothing else but a hard plastic part).
And so the bottom line is a fresh, masculine, distinctive and, in my opinion, well-done fragrance that I like to smell, that offers good value for money and that I think is very versatile.
Once again it is evident that one should not underestimate anyone or anything, some are capable of great things, contrary to all expectations.
