The Surprise
First, a note. The fragrance has been available in a green bottle since the end of 2019 and has since been listed on the company's website as a men's fragrance.
------
Sometimes you stumble upon something like a virgin finding a child. This happened to me recently when I visited one of the numerous Rituals shops in Germany. I was actually just looking for a few hair & body washes plus a shower foam (I find it extremely amusing how the gel transforms into a lovely soapy foam when it reacts with air). For me, the scent is actually less important than the skin compatibility. Since I had once tried a tester in a hotel and found it good, I became a fan of Rituals.
On that particular day, the store was quite busy, and since I didn't feel like waiting in line at the checkout, I instead anchored at the perfume board. Now, I don't know Rituals as a great fragrance producer, neither positively nor negatively. My perception was more along the lines of "budget brand." So I approached the individual scent sticks with zero expectations. I quickly put most of the testers back. However, one of the creations, Oasis Verte, caught my interest, and since there was a mini version called Travel for a slim 14 euros, I decided to grab it.
The next day was the first test. The bottle reminds me of the good old Tsar in terms of color, which is not a bad omen. The next step was to remove the "quality seal Eau de Parfum." Mhm, so far so good. As I said, my expectations for the small vessel were moderate despite the sniff test, so I pressed the sprayer a few times.
First impulse: I confused the bottle. Because what comes out smells like Terre d'Hermes. I look at the bottle, sniff again, and am completely puzzled. The similarity, if not to say the equality, is striking. Now I can already hear the Hermes fans screaming about what nonsense this is, that it’s just a cheap dupe and so on. I am a fan myself (and owner and excessive wearer of Terre), but I assert that Oasis Verte is hard to distinguish in a blind test. The opening is therefore completely successful; how does it continue?
My expectations were also such that after an hour, nothing would be left. And here I must apologize, because Oasis Verte lives up to its name Eau de Parfum. Even after 5 hours, there are only slight signs of fatigue; the scent holds remarkably well, and the freshness remains intact.
However, over time, differences to my beloved Terre reveal themselves, as it becomes woodier, whereas Oasis Verte remains linear and retains its initial character until the end (which for me is 7 hours).
All in all, I am positively surprised; I never expected this.
The scent is a test recommendation for anyone who would like to wear Terre but finds it too mainstream or too expensive. Patchouli lovers will be fully satisfied; I find the vetiver sweet grass perfectly understated but perceptibly dosed. A fine mix that the Rituals team has managed with their perfumer, respect.
The sillage is enormous at first; I left my office to grab a coffee, came back, and upon opening the door, I was quite impressed. A proper cloud had formed. After 2-3 hours, a noticeable weakening can be diagnosed, which is not necessarily a bad thing, as the longevity is really good; even after 7-8 hours with generous application, there is still something lingering.
And the bottle, yes, as described above, simple but decent, just nicely done with this stylized wooden cap (which is actually nothing more than a hard plastic piece).
So, in summary, there remains a fresh, masculine, distinctive, and well-made scent that I enjoy smelling, which offers a good price-performance ratio and is, in my opinion, very versatile.
Once again, it shows that one should not underestimate anyone or anything; some are capable of greatness against all expectations.
