Freshly soaped flower
Fresia, Italian for freesia, does not truly smell of freesia at all but of a creamy bar of Camay soap. There is definitely an appeal in clean, warm, soapy floral perfumes, as evidenced by the popularity of the reformulated Ivoire de Balmain (French white soap) and Infusion d'Iris Homme (Irish Spring soap) - people just love the idea of smelling like they've just emerged, Venus-on-a-shell-like, from a bath. There is a faint idea here of nostalgia for childhood bathing rituals, perhaps, folded piles of laundry, or the idealized vision of cuddling up with a loved one in front of the fire and having him nuzzle into your clean, freshly-scrubbed skin. Fresia is highly recommended, therefore, to girls (or indeed boys) who believe that cleanliness really is close to Godliness. Personally, it's not my kind of thing at all.

My clean feel good scent
When I first read Fresia on the bottle label in the Via del Carrozze store, I made a beeline for it. I adore freesias and I have long been searching for a soliflore freesia perfume. The search still continues to this day, as Fresia is not really about freesias at all; freesias appear only briefly in the opening, launching themselves powerfully on little musk bubbles that are quickly burst by the violets and the iris. The overall feeling is a classic soapy scent of freshly washed, starched to perfection laundry. My go to perfume for crisp white shirts, jeans, and structured handbags, for when I want to look and feel preppy-neat. Good silage and longevity.

a bouquet of blossoms in delicate colors
I fondly remember the time when bouquets of freesias and yellow tea roses were often brought to family and friends' gatherings.
The bare, long stem of the freesia, which only resides in a nest of leaves, was concealed by the foliage of the roses and delicate gypsophila, making these arrangements always appear very graceful and light. Gypsophila lived up to its name and laid a fine floral net over these blooms.
These three were also commonly found in bridal bouquets: for the bride, larger and usually arranged as a white-yellow floral cascade, and smaller bouquets as adornments for the bridesmaids.
Ah, freesias are indeed very romantic flowers that bring smiles just through memories.
Although I also recall that they had to be banished from the rooms in the evening; these fragile creatures possess quite a strong aroma, and in my small apartment, they often had to spend the nights on the balcony, as their scent was so overpowering by evening.

This enchantment was captured by the traditional house Officina Profumo Santa Maria Novella in Florence for its fragrance creation "Fresia."
In the old romantic language of flowers, the freesia represents the mysterious unknown.
Thus, "Fresia" tells a bright, delicate, and creamy story, like a piece of particularly beautiful soap, and has won my heart not only through its unique floral scent but also immediately. Gradually, it unfolds its softly fragrant secret of floral beauty.
For I love stories and also pieces of soap; both reveal their secrets only over time.
My friend just sent me a selection of many different small floral soap pieces for my birthday; she knows my habits and thus my passion for such "trivialities" that can brighten a day.

Freesia soap is not included, but I discovered the Florentine "Fresia" in a spray among my new samples and was immediately transported to another realm, enveloped in this delicate yet slightly earthy floral scent.
There, cheerful little fairy beings sit comfortably in the nest of leaves; they wear these delicate-colored floral bells as hats and skirts - just enchanting freesia fairies!
A charming idea with this light yet floral-rich scent composition.
For I also sense violets and a hint of roses in their company, something earthy-powdery seems to be present as well.

A pleasant sillage, not extremely light for an "Acqua di Colonia," harmoniously and charmingly accompanies for several hours, making this bouquet of blooming freesias so likable and also well-suited for higher temperatures.

So now I have the choice between two lovely freesia scent creations for summery, light days when the warmth has not yet embraced us with its thick down pillows.
For besides this Florentine lady, I still adore my "English Pear & Freesia" from one of Jo Malone's older collections.
Here, alongside the appetizingly ripe pear, fine earthy, woody, and smoky notes play in this scent concert.
In this quintet, the light yet intensely fragrant freesia is beautifully accompanied.

With these two lovely scent beings, I will gladly spend the upcoming summer days and therefore welcome "Fresia" by Officina Profumo S. Maria Novella with open arms and full anticipation for the experiences yet to come.

Very soapy and clean fragrance. Very good longevity in my skin, and over the clothes stay during many hours.

Clean, but sharp and green floral. Unfortunately cannot appreciate this.

Dry, soapy florals with an aldehydic sparkle. Like pulverized flowers ground into a powder mixed into homemade tallow. Vintage floral soap.

Gentle petals
glide softly like a feather

It's a bit too creamy and somewhat old-fashioned for me. The listed notes make sense. Freesia with a powdery creamy base and a musk foundation.

"Soliflores" don't have to be boring. If you like freesia, you might have found the ultimate version in a bottle.
Enchanting!

A delicate bouquet of freesias tied with small roses and violets, wonderfully authentic in its scent, powdery and green, made for fairies.
