Absolutely unique.

Subdued tobacco scent that's reminds me of the highest quality pipe tobacco along with soft sweet vanilla and fresh green accords. The overall impression is that of a extremely high quality sweet tobacco yet surprisingly fresh EDC. Wonderful, definately one of my favourites from S. Maria Novella. Highly recommend giving this one a try!

I thought I hated tobacco, guess not!

I have the SMN discovery set of 8 fragrances, and this was a completely unexpected standout for me. My only previous experience with a tobacco fragrance was with Maison Margiela Replica Jazz Club, which was a massive failure on me (two words: wet ashtray!). So I was quite nervous about Tabacco Toscano and sampled it thinking it would be another case of instant dislike.

…and happily, I was so wrong. This is light, spicy, and woody, with a touch of smoke and sweetness. Like the scent left on your clothes after standing around a bonfire, but lighter and a tad sweeter. If you’re like me and generally hesitant about tobacco fragrances, please try this one! I promise you will not smell like a chain smoker or a barbecue grill. It has an intimate sillage, so the scent sticks close to you, and it’s just soooo cozy and evocative of fall to me.

Also, I do see a lot of men reviewing this and loving it, but I am a woman and I feel like I can wear this too. It’s truly unisex. It’s in the same general vein as soft, spicy, woodsy, vanillic scents like Diptyque Eau Duelle and MM Replica Whispers in the Library (sadly discontinued), which is what makes it so wearable in my opinion and why it appears to be such a crowd-pleaser. (I’m NOT saying it’s a dupe of those, FYI - Tabacco Toscano is less sweet and more spicy/smoky. But the general vibes are similar to me.)

Contemplating a full bottle of this one, and god knows I don’t need any more full bottles right now!

Tobacco in the Fall

Opens with the smell of rich, sweet tobacco. If there’s bergamot here it’s completely overwhelmed by spiced, vanillic leaves.

That heady opening is mellowed a little by the addition of soft leather and hints of wood in the dry down, but this is an unapologetically tobacco forward scent. It doesn’t read as smoky to me at all — this is the scent of someone packing a pipe, not smoking it.

I’m not really a believer in perfume seasonality, but this definitely has a warm, spiced autumnal vibe. Projection is intimate, and longevity is solid (8+ hours). Although tobacco is often gendered as a masculine note, this is totally unisex.

Cosy fireside scent for the colder months

Tabacco Toscano is primarily a labdanum-vanilla amber accord with a secondary accord of smoky tobacco which resembles lapsang souchong tea. It is very warm, smooth, and cosy; and for some reason, reminds me strongly of sitting by the fireplace in winter. I think the smoke note really resembles burning logs in a wood fire. It’s a beautiful scent, which would be really comforting in winter (it’s the wrong season for it in my country atm). Despite the listed leather note, I don’t smell anything resembling leather.
A lot of reviewers seem to think there is a “freshness” to this that makes it wearable in warmer weather, but I don’t get that, and it feels unsuitable for summer.

I love ambers, and I love this scent, but unfortunately, I think it is far too expensive for the performance. Of course, this is a cologne, so it’s expected to be quite weak, however if I can still barely smell something after several sprays I’m not inclined to dish out over 200AUD for a full bottle, no matter how beautiful the smell. I also have another (MUCH cheaper) fragrance with a very similar amber accord, which I prefer over this one due to its seasonal versatility, so I probably won’t bother buying a bottle of Tabacco Toscano once my sample runs out. It’s a pity, because I really do like the amber+tobacco combination.

Santa Maria Novella / Tabacco Toscano

The beginning is quite dry, sharp… skin, beautiful tobacco, musk and probably birch also contributes to it. The fragrance is really unique. Later the fragrance becomes softer - it becomes more amber, sweet and vanilla. Then you can feel a combination of tobacco with the addition of spices (it reminds me of the smell of smoking pipe) and vanilla. It is not (thank goodness) a sweet pot (I unfortunately do not digest Tom Ford with his weird, feminine and refined tobacco vanilla - but I understand that many people may like it). This fragrance for me is more exquisite, complex and with a greater male component. Besides, it naturally paints pictures in front of my eyes. Its disadvantage is, unfortunately, its durability - 3 to max. 5 hours on my body (5 ... is really very close to the body). In my opinion, it is worth knowing and having. Even though it is not a tiring, sweet, bisexual TOM FORD-tobacco vanille spike massacre (which is a huge advantage for me).
