Magical Night of the Unicorn
Acqua di Colonia's Muschio has incredibly faint sillage, which is really its only drawback. Otherwise, this is a beautiful, almost mythical- powdery soft anisic and cardamom-laced musk- with a touch of creamy vanilla that is uniquely sexy without being particularly dirty. There is a dry talc note to this musk that is in a whole different category of what we often describe as "white" musk, as in it bears absolutely no resemblance to the Body Shop "White Musk" or OSMO's "Musc Bleu". This is my current favorite summer fragrance- it is intimate, natural and faintly soothing. Wearing this I feel pretty and simply stunning in a thin white silk dress. Acqua di Colonia is an ancient house- originated in 1612 with extremely pure high end formulations, thus another distinction is very little fixative chemical or irritants in these bottles. The bottle it self is a frosted clear glass version which matches well with the character of this scent. Reapplication is required about every 4 hours to detect the faint spell on my skin. This fragrance brings to mind images of a magical balmy summer night filled with luminescent fire flies dancing around a beautiful unicorn in total peace and safety- hidden far from the prying eyes of mere mortals.

Natural smelling, white, fluffy and sweet
Musc perfumes usually smell too synthetic to me, this is the most "natural" smelling musc I could find.
The composition is very simple. It feels white, powdery and a little bit sweet, almost like toothpaste sweet, but in a good way. Makes me feel clean. Gives autumn/winter cozy white jumper vibes.

Sweet powdery musk
Sweet powdery musk and brightened by a bouquet of barely-there flowers and rounded off with warm amber. I don't really notice the rose. It's all rather homogeneous and one-dimensional; very nicely blended.

It reminds me a bit of "hot shower steam", and ever so slightly of white chocolate. The sweetness is more subdued in the drydown.

Headfirst into the White Clouds
I still remember my very first flight clearly. I was five years old and we were headed to the island of Rhodes. Everything was so new and exciting. The takeoff, the speed before lifting off, and especially that feeling of being pressed into the seat before the plane ascends into the sky. I found the landing to be cruel. That terrible pain in my ears that wouldn't go away even after many hours. The chewing gum recommended by my parents didn’t help at all. However, what fascinated me the most was something else. It was the clouds: The bird breaks through the cloud cover and you see those cozy-looking, brilliantly white cotton clouds from above. You have the feeling that they are stable, that you could just jump in and snuggle up. An illusion that makes children's eyes shine.

I feel exactly that when I sniff Muschio by Santa Maria Novella. I have never experienced such a fine and wonderfully composed musk fragrance before. If there is a high-end category for pure musk scents, then this fragrance definitely falls into it. We have neither laundry detergent nor fabric softener here. That would all be too sharp and too synthetic and would not do justice to this wonderfully fluffy scent. It simply smells delicate, very lightly fresh, perhaps a hint of a noble skin cream that was applied a few hours ago, and it seems to melt on the skin, creating a noble overall composition between the scent of one's own skin and this perfume. It is so incredibly simple and yet so beautiful. In the base, the scent becomes slightly sweet, but always remains delicate and fluffy-fine. Even though the sillage is not very pronounced, I was able to perceive the fragrance I sprayed in the afternoon well into the late evening hours.

A cozy white down blanket fits perfectly. It definitely has to be white, that’s the scent image. White like the clouds viewed from above. I see that Yatagan had this image as well. And just like him, I see this fragrance primarily on the feminine side, though it should not be denied to gentlemen.

And I also agree with Susan, who got me hooked on this treasure. This fragrance, as simple and delicate as it may be, is damn sexy! My husband was enchanted and liked it immediately, and believe me, that doesn’t happen very often.

Since it unfortunately wasn’t in stock during my shopping trip in beautiful Zurich yesterday, I have now pre-ordered it and will pick up my new fragrance love there before the end of the year.

A heartfelt thank you to Susan, through whom I was able to get a first impression of the fragrance. It was so good that I tested it again and am now deeply in love.

White clouds, here I come!

Turquoise Guardian Angel
I would never wear a fragrance during a time of mourning.
I have always thought this, no matter how much I love fragrances, how terrible it would be if a scent later reminded me of a sad time in my life?

But perhaps that would be exactly the phase when I would need it the most:

Before I tested Muschio in spring, only musk was listed as a fragrance note, and I read keywords like:
Powdered sugar, feminine, like freshly creamed, fluffy, and ultimately, the angelic associations that made me want to test it.
When I finally got to test it, my first impression was positive; I could easily relate to the associations.
Sprayed on, it smelled creamy, sweet, delicate, fluffy, and the association of being freshly creamed fit perfectly.
It was simply enchanting.
However, there was something about Muschio that initially puzzled me; what was that animalic note?
The scent of musk, in its purest form, fascinated me.
So this was the scent of musk, all of that, but also spicy/bitter and animalic, yet so rare that the fragrance would not lose its tranquility.

This is how it would probably smell in heaven if angels had a spa day.
This perfume is truly something very special in my collection.
I am usually drawn to extravagant scents that would likely be too strong, too sweet, and generally too much for others. If some of my fragrances could speak, they would probably talk a lot and be loud; some might even scream, they would definitely attract attention.
And then there is Muschio.
Muschio would not say much, beyond whispering. It would speak gently to you, like a good friend giving you advice.

And a few months later, when life shows you again that you should truly enjoy every moment with your loved ones because you never know when a journey on this earth is complete, then Muschio feels like a hug that gives you the sense that everything will be alright.
Yes, a perfume that feels like one of the most beautiful feelings - security.
I know that you, where you are now, are not lonely and happy, and who knows, maybe you are smelling the same fragrance right now, because where you are now, angels are having a spa day.

A subtle, skin-close musk with a hint of rose and a slight sweetness that reminds me more of almond than jasmine.

What I imagine aristocrats smelled like in the 18th century. Muschio is warm, sweet, and powdery - but in a clean way.

A brief citrus start, and the flowers are there immediately. Beautiful musk stays subtle and fluffy light. A creamy almond?
