prominent cool, rooty orris opening. it does compare to iris silver mist here, but only briefly, as a buttery leather note that also reads soapy and slightly powdery / floral emerges. from here the leather becomes the dominant note to me until the base notes come to the fore. at a point in the mid it develops a strange, almost sweaty / acidic tone to the leather which i don't enjoy, i figure a component of the mentioned 'spice' notes, but it doesn't last long thankfully. it definitely reads as 'old world' or 'antique' in its nature - not as in a vintage scent, but suggesting those actual things. i understand the mentions here of it smelling like a museum, or an oil painting. very 'grey' in tone. the performance is subdued, becoming a slightly sweetened, musky skin-scent very quickly after the opening, but it does last quite a while. it's good. i don't regret buying it and will likely use it all, but for the price? it's a lot to ask for what it is and for the performance. saying that, i do kind of wish i had bought sidi bel-abbes instead. that seems to have more going for it and has more presence.
