A warm journey
The Kalbelias are a nomadic people of India, born as snake charmers, and famous for their sensual dance that replicates the movements of this splendid animal.
A dance steeped in tradition, seduction, with magical, hypnotic movements, enriched by veils, jewels and anklets, colourful: something extremely emotional, as Sand Dance is.
A fragrance that opens spicy, projecting us into a different place, making us perceive that we will witness something extremely pleasant... the pure cocoa emerges, becoming inebriating thanks to the alcoholic notes and finally creamy and soft with the precious woods.
An intense olfactory journey, a warm and decisive fragrance, which will not fail to please lovers of the genre.

Delicious chocolate
Sand Dance is very similar to reserve privée, but with a beautifully blended smooth chocolate. Even better. It instantly became one of my favorite perfumes.
It has a long longevity, although it became weaker after slightly over 5 hours on my wrist, that's pretty good. Can still smell it faintly after 25 hours.

Something Unique
This was a blind buy for me. It’s rare that something catches me off guard as to how unique it is. This is one of those fragrances that just makes you feel warm and cozy. It opens up with this excellent boozy warm spicy accord. Not too far after the open, you get introduced to this insanely realistic chocolate note. No, I’m not talking sugary Hershey’s bar type of chocolate. I’m talking a dry, realistic type of chocolate. It hides in the back and adds just the right amount of nuance. On dry down, it develops into this really gorgeous warm vanilla that lingers until it becomes a skin scent. Pretty good longevity and it was projecting pretty hard the first few hours with 4 sprays. I feel like this is a pretty strong unisex fragrance. My only gripe about SHL so far is how the caps aren’t metal. I’m paying in the $200 range for a 50ml, so I’d expect a quality metal cap.

Here the Snake Dances
My review of God of Fire must of course be followed by the second test fragrance from the new SHL scents. Sand Dance was already my favorite at the beginning of its release. As an old gourmand fan, I am always eager to find something new that upholds the theme. What could be better than a fragrance that involves cocoa and whisky? So I was immediately fired up for a test.

Sand Dance is one of those perfumes that you have to experience, as it is hard to find the right words. It comes across as quite oriental, very dry and bony, and pleasantly warm in the nose. To give an impression, I would say it is like № 02 - L'Air du Désert Marocain Eau de Toilette Intense or "Au Coeur du Désert | Tauer Perfumes," but with a chocolate component. Dry cocoa powder in the desert wind.

I stand on the edge of the city, 30 degrees in the shade.
Before me stretch the foothills of the desert. Egypt.
I feel the grains of sand whipping against my legs. Pain in my face, pinpricks.
Dry, warm, high sun.
The smell of sand, the wind reveals interesting scents of the desert.
Something rises in my nose, the market is nearby.
No spices, rather sweet aromas.
Dried fruits that have an alcoholic hint.
Mandarins in dried form, yet fruity.
Cocoa beans. But so dry in the desert wind that you rather perceive cocoa powder.

Benzoin, dry resinousness.
Tonka bean supports the cocoa.
Warmth, patchouli? Not too earthy, more warmth.
Dry wood. Underpinning, strong and soft at the same time.
I dance with joy. Sand in my shoes.
The dance in the sand.
Sand Dance.

Interestingly, the new fragrances from SHL offer more performance than most of my previous test candidates. The sillage is less than with "God of Fire | Stéphane Humbert Lucas," but still enough that you can perceive the wonderful clouds repeatedly in the first hour.
Here too, eight hours are easily achieved, and I am satisfied in most cases.

The sweetness is kept in check by the dryness on my skin to the extent that I cannot speak of a hardcore gourmand. It simply fits the picture that the sweetness comes quite naturally from the cocoa and does not seem artificial.

Great piece.

A Glass of Whiskey in a Chocolatey Yet Dry Sandstorm...
I initially bought into the hype surrounding SHL with "God of Fire | Stéphane Humbert Lucas," which was actually quite decent, but somehow also felt very synthetic. Unfortunately, a similar truth emerged with "Venom Incarnat | Stéphane Humbert Lucas." But what about Sand Dance?

Let's get into it:

- At the beginning, I get a - in my opinion - unfortunately synthetic smelling ... hmm... yes, whiskey-like note..., which also brings a good portion of lightly green spice from the coriander. The mandarin unfortunately gets a bit lost, and I would have wished for it to be a bit more present, as it feels alcoholic but somehow also dry and bitter.

- Then cocoa and vanilla jump into the fray, and yes, the cocoa is almost exuberant, giving the feeling of being in a chocolate factory. Not an ordinary chocolate factory, this one produces rather dry, rough chocolate or hmmm... maybe more like chocolate powder.

- As it develops further, I then perceive a nice sandalwood note, which adds a bit of warmth and a creamy texture to the fragrance, but the tonka together with other accords leads the scent to end up as a chocolate brownie; even though I can't deny that this dry character combined with the resinous quality in the drydown minimally "saves" the fragrance, it unfortunately wouldn't make it into my collection.

... yes, it is a nice, intriguing scent, but it also feels a bit too synthetic again, and despite the exciting, dry texture, I unfortunately don't warm up to it.

Anyhow, I think the fragrance is far more interesting than many other scents, and therefore I'm sure it will find its following.

PS: The performance is typical for SHL, quite decent and above average...

Warm, melted chocolate in a bottle.
This fragrance has a crazy sillage, a heavy-gourmand scent.

Balsamic woody open (realm of Amber Star, Amber Sky) with added cocoa, dry-down spicier. Simple & linear, underwhelming performance.

This is my favorite fragrance and signature scent. A person who enjoys gourmand fragrances could only dream of this until 2022. Chocolatey boozy woody

Mostly cocoa powder in the dry desert. Less sweet, dry, other type of gourmand. Sexy at warmer temperatures. Yummy.

After a juicy and boozy spicy-sweet opening, this warm and powdery spicy-resinous Fall fragrance, settles to a smooth earthy-woody base.

Dry, dusty spiciness evokes desert flavors. Cocoa, however, makes the vaguely subtle mortal skin vibe seem very playful.

A boozy creamy woods scent. A milky chocolate scent amongst a smooth creamy whiskey note. Hints of citrus evens out the sweetness.

Distinctive mix of dark Cocoa + boozy vibe in a woody bed gently soaked in balsams and resins. A tad creamy but not gourmand imo. More masc

You can directly tell that there is nothing similar to Sand Dance. Pure niche quality, stands out as a warm gourmand fragrance.
