Elios loves Oliver
The Story behind this fragrance is the love of Elio and Oliver. Told by André Aciman in his work "Call Me by Your Name". Elio, 17, son of an archeology professor, meets Oliver, 24, a doctoral student and his father's assistant. 1983, in summer, in Italy. It´s about their time together in Rome. Facets of love. Mentally and physically. Moments of closeness and fear of loss. Hide and seek in the mirror of social expectations and value systems. An urgent need of home, wanderlust and identity.
Prin portraits Elio's feelings and impressions of, with and for Oliver with this fragrance. And (re)quotes Elio with the words:
"Was he my home, my homecoming?
You are my homecoming. When I'm with you and we're well together, there is nothing more I want.
You make me like who I am, who I become when you're with me, Oliver.
If there is any truth in the world, it lies when I'm with you..."
The name of the perfume "San Clemente" refers to the San Clemente syndrome, described in the book (and film) as a poem by the character Alfredo. At the same time it leaves each reader (spectator) with a story in the story, different and above all left with the individual interpretation and possibilities. Thus, the eponymous church, Basilica San Clemente al Laterano, built on various sacred buildings of its own prehistory, stands above all this holy ground and remains of the buildings, that built its own foundation, for the connection of past, present and future. A connection of everything. Even if around corners. At the same time the San Clemente Syndrome stands for the emotional tension between loneliness, the connected homesickness and the attraction of strangers (in any form).
Elio's portrayed love for Oliver is an emotional rollercoaster ride, lined with moments of intimacy and self-awareness. But, also, a lot of doubts. Beautiful to call the loved one his "home".
The fragrance itself exudes a calm fascination. On the one hand there is the subliminal red fruit of the wine and the cherries, which cool down over the embers. But also something human. Like white musk. The described glow has something of warm amber, which heats up and releases its resinous steam. At the same time, the combination of tobacco and iris is also very comforting. Almost tender.
A warm, dull, almost melancholic sound. It plays especially close to his skin - maybe a meter around me. This fragrance is not a classic perfume, worn to transport a mood. It's a mood! Which transfers on me. It's beautiful and yet sad. Full of hope. Dark red, with small brown, warm speckles. Full of longing and wanderlust.
Probably the right scent to put you in the mood to let the book or the movie have an effect on you.
