Muscat Jasmine Tea Strangers Parfumerie 2024

Okay the opening of this smells like juicy muscat grapes and... a foot. There is something weird as hell and kind of offensive and animalic about it, but WAIT! Let it cook. That gross note fades within 10 seconds and then you're left with the most delicious fruity jasmine iced Taiwanese tea with popping crystal boba. It's so youthful and sweet! It kind of reminds me of Jasmine Freak by Room 1015 but with a distinct grape note.

Holy grape candy sweetness. This is tooth achingly grape esque sweetness overload. It opens very abrasively with hard candy sweetness, grape fruitiness, specifically a green grape, with a sweet pear trailing behind. Once you let it settle into itself you do get jasmine, albeit still sweet, with something vaguely fresh that resembles a sweet tea. This scent feels muddled and falls flat once it actually settles down, it’s just kinda sweet? Kinda floral? Kinda tea esque? This unfortunately did not scratch the grape itch for me and I wouldn’t classify it as a successful tea scent.

Lives up to its name - jasmine tea with grape. Like a fruit tea from a fancier bubble tea shop - nicely balanced, not too sweet.

I was pleasantly surprised by how prominent the grape note is without being artificial, and it lasts into the dry down. Perfect for a summer day!

Lasts most of the day (6 hours or so) on my skin.

I bought a decant, but a full bottle is going on my wish list.

I fell in love instantly - but it's not an everyday pull, for sure.

Muscat Jasmine Tea opens with a citrus floral punctuated by a strong, STRONG grape tang that announces itself across a room. The grape accord is unmistakably muscat, green and sweet and a bit musky. They've avoided falling back on any generic "grape" you may expect from Western flavoring and have approached the fruit on its own terms. Over the first hour the initial zesty grape blast really rounded out, reminding me of popping green grapes in the freezer for a sweet summer treat.

A few hours in the softer side of the fragrance began to shine, a super-fragrant green tea accord with a hint of sweetness still lingering. At the 5 hour mark it had faded to a surprisingly light and intimate base, green and a bit on the "soapy" side.

If you want a lasting grape funk you'll need to reapply; if you want a light fragrance for every day you'll need to spray early and let it air out a bit. My main criticism of this fragrance is it's right in the sweet (sour?) spot where I need to plan ahead on wearing it and calculate where I'll be when it's funky vs. when it's faded. Mostly a personal problem!

I bought the sample because I wanted to try out different jasmine scents but also because I was intrigue by the muscat note. I grew up going to Japan to visit family from my mom's side so muscats candy is a very nostalgic scent and taste for me. This perfume manage to get the scent of those muscat flavored gummies you would get in Japan or any Japanese grocery store that would carry them. I don't think I would go out of my way to get a full bottle or wear it out but I'm glad I got to try it.
