Nice & simple

This is a beautiful take on tonka bean. Only the best facets of tonka are combined here: Lots of warmth, a very pleasant level of sweetness, a touch of spice and a good balance of creaminess and only a hint of powder. It also seems a tiny bit boozy to me, in a very lush and inviting way. Unlike some other tonka scents, this has no scratchy edges or waxiness and doesn't lean to far into the sweet almond direction.
It's a simple scent, there is not much you can smell here besides the tonka and vanilla. Maybe a little musk in the base. This reminds me of something, but I can't put my finger on an exact perfume. I think it might just be reminiscent of the warm, creamy drydowns that some vanillic scents from the 90s and 2000s have. If you know, you know.

Maybe this is a bit too simple on its own, at least for my personal taste, but I think it would be great for layering, to add some warmth and depths to other fragrances. It's a strong like for me. It's just so smooth and comes across as well-crafted.

Exciting fragrance in an unassuming guise

I discovered the perfume house "The Merchant of Venice" - quite fittingly - by chance during my vacation in Venice. When I entered the small store, I was completely fascinated by the beautiful, colorful bottles. I tested many of the pompous flacons, but no scent could truly convince me.

Until I saw, a bit off to the side, the display with the fragrances from the "Accordi di Profumo" line. The bottles appeared very unassuming compared to the others and didn’t look very high-quality. The idea of monothematic scents didn’t initially blow me away either, until the label "Tonka Venezuela" caught my attention. I love Tonka! I picked up the bottle and was surprised that it was unexpectedly made of heavy glass. I sprayed the fragrance - and was thrilled! By the way, I was also impressed by the sprayer, which produced a wonderful fine mist. Bam - and I had fallen in love with the scent in the unassuming guise. It had to come home with me right away.

In stark contrast to the flacon, its contents are definitely something to behold! As the name suggests, Tonka clearly plays the leading role in this fragrance. However, I also detect a fine vanilla. Alongside this, there is a gourmand caramel note. It adds a certain sweetness, which is kept in check by the slightly smoky base. Wow! In my opinion, despite the slight sweetness, the fragrance is absolutely unisex.

The scent progression is relatively linear, becoming increasingly vanilla-like on my skin over time. The scent cloud is dense, and the fragrance impression is pleasantly warm. What I particularly appreciate about this perfume is that I can continuously perceive it while wearing it - I don’t become "noseblind," as with many other scents. The scent cloud accompanies me all day, and when sprayed generously on fabric, it even lasts for days. I have only been able to test the perfume in summer so far, but I can imagine it will be even better in winter.

"Tonka Venezuela" is a simple yet very extraordinary fragrance, and I am happy that it will forever remind me of my vacation in Venice.

The Foundation for Everything

Do you know that feeling when you really like a fragrance, but something is missing? Maybe that certain something?
Or perhaps you like it, but it’s too fruity, too bitter, too spicy, too sweet, …?

This is exactly where "Accordi di Profumo - Tonka Venezuela | The Merchant Of Venice" comes into play.
Unlike what is listed in the fragrance pyramid, this scent has vanilla in the top note alongside the tonka bean, and the base note consists of nutmeg, vanilla, and benzoin.
The fragrance is slightly sweet - by no means cloyingly sweet - and above all, very creamy. In the drydown, the powderiness, which is initially more subtle, increasingly comes to the forefront.
And that’s basically it for the fragrance development. What makes it so special, and how does it relate to the scenario mentioned above?
For me, Accordi Tonka is the perfect foundation for almost all fragrances when you want to add creaminess and a slight powderiness. Especially when a fragrance leans too much in one direction, Accordi Tonka creates a wonderful whole and impresses with its seductive creaminess in the base.
So for me, it’s a perfect scent for layering.

Hidden Talents

There are days and situations when I like to wear perfumes that have a complex fragrance pyramid and a very intricate development.

And then there are days and situations when less is simply more. On those days, I want to wear perfumes that are more linear, that don’t undergo a big, surprising transformation, and where instead of a multitude of exciting fragrance notes, you can simply smell one or two clear, calming notes.

Such a perfume is Tonka Venezuela. It says Tonka on the bottle, and mainly, it contains Tonka. Vanilla, nutmeg, and benzoin stay subtly in the background. The development for me is absolutely linear; from the first moment of spraying until the end, there is no evolution or change. A clear, soft, sweet, but not overly sweet Tonka scent.

Not a perfume that will turn heads. More of a "cuddle scent" for a cozy Sunday on the couch. A perfume that you wear for yourself, to warm and soothe the soul, to relax, but not to stand out.

The bottle is rather simple and unremarkable compared to other bottles from the brand, and one might be inclined to categorize this scent as a bit inconspicuous as well. Something along the lines of: Nice, quite pleasant, unobtrusive. But nothing more.

However, that does not do Tonka Venezuela justice at all! Its true talent reveals itself when combined with other fragrances, as Tonka Venezuela is a true master of transformation.

As has been described multiple times in statements and reviews here, this perfume is perfect for giving an extra dose of gourmand quality to almost any other fragrance. Scents that sometimes feel too harsh, too fresh, or too floral become soft, warm, and wonderfully gourmand without losing their original character. Even absolute classics like Coco Mademoiselle receive a whole new touch through the Venezuelan Tonka.

I can only warmly recommend this small, unassuming bottle to gourmand fans. Worn alone, it is already a truly beautiful scent. But in combination with other fragrances (and I dare say that it is possible with most perfumes), it creates a true gourmand delight!

Cozy Sunday Afternoon After a Long Bath

For me, this fragrance is a pure feel-good scent. It reminds me of a cozy Sunday afternoon after a long bath. It has something of body lotion, feels heavy on the skin, but not overwhelming. More like a warm blanket or a thick bathrobe. For me, truly one of my favorite scents.

What's on the label is what's inside: creamy-sweet tonka bean with minimal smoky-resinous sprinkles. Made with quality, but a bit too bland for me personally.
