In a word, it's a very "modern fougère with elegance." The bright, vibrant sparkle of bergamot and mandarin opens with light accents of spicy notes.

The defining feature of this perfume is lavender (lavandin). Rather than the powerful, masculine image seen in traditional fougère notes, this elegant fougère evokes the calm and peaceful side of lavender. The salty notes that intertwine with it seem to express a cool night air and a sophisticated, urban impression.

The woody notes in the base are never too heavy. Rather than being perfectionist, this fragrance exudes a smart and gentle fragrance, expressing the elegance of a relaxed, mature man.

So for context, I had Ultra Male about two years ago and loved the scent but the performance was so god awful on me that it would literally disappear by the third hour- and no, I wasn’t going nose blind because I would ask people if they could smell me and they couldn’t either. So, disappointed, I got rid of my bottle and got Ramz Silver, which smelled similar but had this synthetic undertone to it that left an almost metallic taste in my mouth so I stopped wearing that too.

Fast forward to last week, I was looking on Jomashop and saw this new Extradose. Curious, I ordered a 1ml sample and wore it to work today (I work at a coffee shop). Now, my coworkers know I have an affinity for perfume, but most of them usually don’t comment about it aside from one person. Today, three separate people, including my shift supervisor, commented about how good I smelled and asked what I was wearing.

I don’t really wear fragrances on the basis of how many compliments I get since I just wear what I like, but it does definitely mean something to me that they commented on this. This to me is like Ultra Male but smoother and a little warmer/more “manly”, which I think comes from the spices. I do wish the “salty notes” were more apparent since I’m always looking for fragrances that do salty smells well, but I didn’t really get that from this.

This one never smells overly synthetic to me, but it projects really well, with legitimately 4-5 feet of projection if not more for the first hour and then it settles to 1-2.5 feet with moderate-high sillage. Smells delicious in the air, like bubblegum as many have said, but also has some fruitiness to it and as it dries, I personally get vanilla and woods from it. This is done really really well and I honestly do believe I’ll buy a bottle of it.

Sure, it’s nothing super new or inventive, but the only other Valentino I have is Uomo Intense, which I also love, so without having the context of the rest of the BiR line, I love this. Not insanely well performing- I get about 6 hours and it’s a skin scent by the end, but I don’t go nose blind to it which is a huge plus and 6 hours is very acceptable by my standards.

I wish this fragrance emitted bubble gum or Gaultier Le Male vibes for me, as several others have mentioned elsewhere. Licorice is not listed at all, yet I received everything I hate about licorice jelly beans after skin application.

It has been a while since I have felt the need to immediately remove a fragrance from my skin instead of waiting to see where it goes. I gave it about 10 minutes to turn itself around and it only got worse.

This may be a winner for some of you however, because body chemistry is the deciding factor. I was really hoping for a true lavender note that could be detected at least in the opening. The vague mention of “spices” is what this fragrance is all about. If there is vetiver in here, it’s buried beneath those spices. Synthetic? Absolutely.

Uomo Intense (2023) remains my favorite from the new age Valentinos.

At the opening I mostly got a smooth lavender, salty notes, and low dose of dry woody notes. I believe one of the spices in here is cardamom. There's a touch of a citrusy bergamot but it's being choked out by the heavier dose of lavender. As this dries down though, the earthy dry vetiver and woody base starts to pull through harder and cuts through the citrus notes. The lavender cloud becomes more dominant.

Overall it's: Lavender, dry, woody and salty with a touch of spice. It's super strong and has that barbershop-esque feel from the lavender and salt. Longevity and projection are good. The salty notes are very clean.

Sorry to say for any fans of this fragrance, but this fragrance to my nose is overly synthetic sweet bomb. Like a cheap fragrance trying too hard to be beast mode and to get attention, desperately.

Somehow, it is like OG BIR and then added with EXTRACT of Stronger With You, but not get mixed up so well. Performance is nuclear tho, like I said. And for some people, as long as it is nuclear, a fragrance will be "good". Understandably tho, considering how weak a lot of designer fragrances (not all) nowadays, especially after IFRA ban, which kinda tiring. But for me, it doesn't mean I want it to be like this.

So, for me, just like the title of my review: it is not Extradose, but overdosed.
