Basically, there are no reasons to even consider buying Swiss Army fragrances, especially when we can easily refer to the ratings given here by Parfumos. However, when I see the fragrance pyramid and the country bumpkin in me reads "hay" in the base note, well, which perfume wouldn't that leave cold?
At first, I admit, the headline is both everything and nothing; you also have to know how hay actually smells, and you have to like it too.
The moment you catch the grapefruit and cardamom fighting their way to the forefront, you wonder where the 10% rating from the connoisseur comes from, but it really hits you so clearly that you find yourself in a mountain hut, on a hayloft, swaying back and forth, hay as far as the eye can see. This extremely lifelike note is as unsynthetic as anything I know; sure, a Canali style is, according to Apicius, a visit to the pet store, but what is this then?
Sweet tonka tickles quite nicely, but that doesn't bother the dominance of the hay at all; I can't explain how real it smells with words, sometimes I have no choice but to take a sniff away. I can't say how long I ignored this Victorinox; I was at work, but it must have been around 2-3 hours, it becomes very soft, spicy, and tonka sweet. During this time, it changes 180 degrees; it becomes more sociable, closer, not exotic, foreign.
After spraying it on, I asked 12 of my colleagues for their opinion until the dry down, and two nodded and walked on, two were just wrinkling their noses, but all the others had to sniff closer and again, and I had to explain to them about Victorinox Swiss Army, which was difficult. I noticed during the bus ride that the previous dominance was extremely annoying, yet after a few hours, I really like the residual note of hay mixed with cocoa and wood. I have never known a perfume that comes across as naturally as this one; however, I must say, if any scent was love or hate, then this one is both.
Longevity is very strong; luckily, otherwise I would hardly have anything from the dry down.
The sillage is very good to good, just not the full 8 hours.
The bottle looks really great, feels heavy in the hand, and the sprayer is good, but the cap is a plastic cork imitation, which somewhat undermines the quality.
All in all, I decided between 60% and 70% for the latter; it is not an everyday scent, and I certainly won't wear it in the club, but before I wear a Cerruti Image Harmony for long walks in the summer, I am sure I won't go wrong with this Swiss one.
