Faded Potpourri

Hmmm ... rather disappointing this one. I had high expectations judging by rave reviews all over the internet, but all I get from this is faded potpourri.
It smells a little neglected, like the parfumier ran out of ideas and then ran out of ingredients. What a shame! I guess one needs to be an Yves Rocher fan to enjoy what this house puts out. I like this one only marginally better than it's big sister Ispahan (which is a blatant ripoff of Cinnabar dissolved in water)but I was curious and found two mini's reasonably priced on Ebay and thought "what the hell, try them". I'm glad I didn't spring for full bottles in a blind buy.
Weak and insipid ... ah well, at least I've assauged my Rocher curiosity.

Tame Roses

but it wasn't what i expected i
thought it was going to be a a sharp
daring scent but i'v got is a tame
scent of cloying vanilla
i don't smell any evdidence of rose or
spices and i can detect cherries like
cherry cough syrup it does smell like
cherry cough syrup. It's Extreamly
Tame.

Mahalebi, Greek-Cypriot Dessert.

This summer when I visited Ayia Napa, my Greek-Cypriot friends introduced me to Mahalebi, an old-school dessert from the island. Rose Ispahan is what Mahalebi would smell like if it was a perfume. Because my friends were so kind, I had to eat my Mahalebi, but at least I can say no to Rose Ispahan. There's just too much rose, both here and in the dessert, too much sweetness, too much vanilla. The only thing I like is the raspberry and the way it bounces off the rose and the vanilla. Wish I could divorce that part from the rose overdose.

Dessert rose from Iran

Trying to find out what Ispahan means I did some internet digging. It turns out that it’s a Damask rose, a city in Iran, and the name of a cake : a haute patisserie dessert of rose-petal cream with lychee and raspberry, enveloped in macaroon.
Hmm, looks good ... think I’d rather wear that than this sickly vanilla and carboard rose.

Sweet Roses Sweetened with Raspberries and Vanilla Pudding

I have known Rose Ispahan since its launch in 1997. I received my new Yves Rocher catalog, ordered something, and along with it, I got a pretty miniature of this fragrance.

I liked the scent immediately and used my mini diligently. I then had a second mini of it, but never a large bottle. I only got that a few years ago. When the second mini was empty, other fragrances came along, but I never completely forgot about Rose Ispahan. An empty miniature surely sat in my makeup table for years, and from time to time, I would smell the empty bottle.

Rose Ispahan is an oriental rose fragrance with slightly gourmand undertones. It is a sweet scent that radiates warmth, but the sweetness is never annoyingly sticky. The colors yellow-pink match the fragrance well.

It starts off with a good portion of sweet roses, and a slight fruitiness can also be detected. There is supposed to be raspberry in it, but the scent does not smell directly of raspberries; they are at most delicately hinted at.
A gentle woodiness joins in, which could come from rosewood. Vanilla takes over from here and remains dominant until the end.
Rose Ispahan receives even more warmth from patchouli and sandalwood.

Despite all the sweetness, I find it not too much, and with proper dosage, it is not too loud either.
The longevity is very good; the scent lasts at least 6 hours on me.
There was also an extrait of it, which I only know because I happened to find a bottle of it, and of course, I grabbed it right away.

It has a slight similarity to Rose Kashmirie by Les Parfums de Rosine, which, however, appears even rosier, a bit less vanillic, and overall more refined. But I think both fragrances are great.

Rose Ispahan is a very well-executed fragrance by Yves Rocher.
