Citric, floral iris with spices and suede, another great winner
Sundown is the most recent Happyland release, a spicy fresh blend with a prominent iris note that it’s a bit spicier than Zzyzx RD but less animalic and leathery than Malpaso, somewhere in between, and more agreeable than the latter and close to ease-of-wearing of the former. It has florals, spices, a noteworthy lavender note to accompany the iris, and freshened by citruses, with a bit of suede and patchouli to provoke. It’s reasonable sharp, not surprising given the prominence of the iris and lavender, but not obtrusively so. It has a great balance among its various elements and is the latest in a great line of iris/orris-rich fragrances from E.J. Wells that I find very sophisticated, easy-to-wear, and versatile, including Shadowland, Mad Anthony, Zzyzx RD, and now Sundown. I continue to be impressed by his skill in crafting beautiful fragrances with notes that I sometimes find challenging or overused. And as always, the performance and pricing ($57/44 for 50/30ml) are great, top of class.
