Bitter fresh licorice shavings!
I don't have much experience with the "Mugler fragrances" yet. I had only tested "Angel"--"Alien" (much too sweet for me) and the original "Mugler-Cologne" (too thin). Now I have a descendant of it under my nose, which seems to be just "right" in terms of scent, durability and radiance. And it is. But where is the "licorice"? Which tastes good to me as a sharp-sweet "snail" and in other forms?
Well, it is very cleverly integrated between all kinds of woods and citrus fruits (mainly grapefruit) and can only be sniffed "from deep down", which does not detract from the overall impression. On the contrary: the tart, light amber notes in the "finish" make it a really beautiful, slightly mysterious fragrance that can even be worn in midsummer, neither leaving an eternally long "trail" nor being close to the skin. Just like the inventors (the "noses" behind it) and my own. A quiet, pleasant "bitter-fresh sweet rasp". Which may read somewhat disharmoniously, but smells very "fragrant"!
