A Classic Rose Patch Oud Combination With A Twist
Gold Rose Oudh opens with a dominant slightly raspberry jammy rose light as air supported by sharp green bergamot citrus. As the composition enters its early heart the airy rose remains the star, now supported by a relatively refined Oud and patchouli tandem with hints of underlying green fir and some of the slightly sweet honey rising from the base. During the late dry-down the rose and Oud slowly recede though never completely disappear as the slightly sweet honey takes over as star with subtle dry amber support remaining through the finish. Projection is excellent to outstanding and longevity excellent at about 12 hours on skin.

The rose, Oud and patchouli trio is such a classic combination that it is hard not to yawn when yet another rendition is released (no matter how competent). It is all too easy to dismiss Gold Rose Oudh as just that... but there really is more to this composition than its surface classic structure indicates. The first thing notably different than the norm is its sharp green underlying nature immediately noticeable at the open through the deft use of bergamot citrus in an unexpectedly different way, furthered by an infusion of coniferous fir later in the early heart. Just when one may feel the composition has revealed all its secrets the late dry-down comes seemingly out of nowhere, turning it into a dry honey and amber driven affair through the finish. The bottom line is the $145 per 100 ml bottle Gold Rose Oudh does little to plow new ground for the crowded classic rose, patch, Oud genre, but its brilliant execution and subtle nuances throughout distinguish it, earning the composition an "excellent" 4 stars out of 5 and a strong recommendation.

A Rich Rose Oudh
Tiziana Terenzi Gold Rose Oudh
A rich rose Oudh

I wore GRO for a third time, trying to decide what to do with this blind buy.
They say the third time's a charm, and I guess it is because wow, it finally hit me what a beauty she is.
The first two times I tested GRO I applied it shyly, one tiny spray, and the result was an animalic opening with dark bitter sour roses and it just didn't work for me (I struggle with rose notes in perfumes and cosmetics).
Today I sprayed a little more generously, 3 sprays, and this brought out her true beauty. Yes, sometimes more is better ;)
GRO opens strong. The top is deep dark bitter. Imagine a rose dark as blood, dried blood, almost black, with a thick stem and the darkest green leaves you've seen, standing in rich wet soil, that's the image that comes to my mind. That rich earth is probably the patchouli and oud. I remember smelling some high quality Oud oil a few years ago and it transported me to winter walks in the forest I used to make as a kid. We'd play hide and seek, making yourself tiny, crouching behind trees and shrubbery. That smell of rotting leaves and wet soil, sometimes still covered with patches of snow here and there, mixed with the dark green pine smell, there's something very comforting about it. In this fertile setting stands a lush dark rose with a powerful deep and rich aroma, on the bitter side, not sweet.
I didn't pay attention to the evolution, but suddenly I was thinking gosh, I love this. In the dry down the play between the rose and the Oud (soil note) is perfectly balanced out, it has softened, become more dusty or powdery, more smoky, whilst hiding some sweetness under that smoky cover, and it's captivating. I can't keep my nose off my arm, and boy am I glad I held on to my bottle and didn't swap it away as soon as I got it.
This may have just joined the ranks in my personal best and most loved rose and Oud combo fragrances.

Rich and bright rose-oud that puts others to shame
The opening is bright with bergamot and has a slightly camphorous, bitter green edge from the fir, which has the effect of snapping you to full attention. The oud used here is dry and woody, with none of the overtly medicinal overtones of the Montale-style oud, and it explodes in combination with a fleshy rose and a rich, chocolate-like patchouli. Everything about this central rose-oud-patchouli accord is rich, bright, and vivid.

I tested it with Black Aoud on my other wrist, and I can say that the central difference is this: whereas Black Aoud has an impressive start, it drifts off into a soapy-white musk drydown that feels a bit flat and one-dimensional, whereas Rose Gold Oudh stays golden, resinous, and vibrant from top to tail. Surprisingly, Rose Gold Oudh is also far more animalic in feel and tone than Black Aoud.

The drydown is a gorgeous and pleasant surprise. Unlike many of its peers in this category that end in a soapy, musky, slightly boring place, Rose Gold Oudh has a drydown characterized by a dry, resinous amber-benzoin combination and warm honey. It's not the usual place for a rose-oud to end up, but it feels like a very good idea. It is sensual, rounded, ambery and 'full' in feel. In other words, while somebody certainly didn't stint on the quality of raw materials used in this fragrance, it is also clear that there was a skilled hand here in guiding this fragrance through its transition from its bright, camphorous start to its animalic, rich, woody-rose heart, and then finally into its amber-honey base. In a corner of the crowded rose-oud-patchouli field, someone decided not to just phone it in.

*hrmpf* Flui in Death Struggle :-(
State of emergency in Flui's nose. The alarm bells are ringing. A sharp scream. SOS. Out!
A gigantic, sharp, ultra-thin arrow strikes right into the heart. As targeted as a needle prick. Completely smooth and clean. Unexpected, like the perfect killer.
The scent kicks off like Black Aoud by Montale. A lipstick accord hits hard. A battle begins with an unknown, invisible, unavailable enemy. What to do? One is lost in an unfamiliar labyrinth, aimlessly driven. The nose goes haywire like a gear without a grip, without resistance (my physics teacher once chewed me out for spelling resistance with ie :D but never mind).
Fortunately, the rose becomes slightly smoky over time, making it more bearable; I couldn't detect bergamot at all. The harsh and whipping notes of the top are slowly fading. However, the bitter battle is not over yet. GRO, however, has taken the fiercest edge off. The sand and the fir, at least I believe these notes are responsible, even if I can't identify them exactly, somewhat extinguish the blazing fire. The fiery oud is also calmed down. The fire-filled labyrinth becomes passable.
The individual scent notes cannot be identified alone; everything is contained within everything. However, patchouli might be stronger in the further course of the scent than the rest, thus everything becomes more muted but GRO is still not tamed. The scent can only catch up with itself and work through itself until it calms down. In the end, it has exhausted itself and slowly collapses in on itself, becoming milder and milder, quieter and more subdued. The lipstick accord comes out a bit stronger again.
Hmm, a small part of Flui's olfactory sensorium cautiously sniffs to see if the air is clear again. It is.

Fresh Rose petals, gentle Patchouli, mild Oud+spices, absolutely beautiful yet not unique blend. Not dark to my nose, nor heavy. Versatile.

Rose, dark rose and oud. I received many compliments from women. Good performance.

Rose-oud-combo that pleasantly surprises. Honey makes the scent not sweet, but full and soft (despite spiciness). A touch of fir invigorates.

Very beautiful rose-oud! :)
The rose is in the foreground with a hint of sour oud.
Reminds me of More than Words.
Perfect for oud beginners :)

A subtler, more wearable version of "Black Aoud" by Montale! Dense roses, fine animalic oud, earthy-soapy patchouli. Elegant, striking, luxurious.

Opulent rose-oud scent without a doubt. Fiery, ripe rose, clear oud, woody, resinous, creamy, everything you could want.

The honey gently envelops the fir,
woody, no doubt about it.
Spicy yet charmingly rosy,
snuggled in amber and musk attire.

Very similar to "Armani Privé - Rose d'Arabie," but a bit more gourmand due to the honey note. A lovely scent. Definitely worth trying.

Lightly soapy, juicy-dense rose with a subtle, animalistic oud and soft-sweet honey in the background. Unique, elegant, and beautiful. PL is grand!

Like rose honey-tannin noticeable, dark rich notes in the background.
Dense, concentrated, full dove-netted rose.
Longevity and sillage are enormous.
