21 is my favorite number. Not only is there the "Torino21 | XerJoff," but also numerous other fragrances that bear this number in their name, which I won't list all here but that pique my curiosity. Thanks to a generous sample, I was able to delve a bit deeper into this creation, as I actually needed several attempts to get something out of "21."
For I too noticed a rather unpleasant synthetic note upon the very first spray on skin and paper, as reported in the statements here. Accordingly, I delayed my testing, but kept "playing" with the fragrance. After all, the pyramid makes no secret that aldehydes and ISO-E-Super are used, and no purely natural ingredients are included.
When I spray the EdP into the air, a wonderful woody-ambery, warm scent with depth ignites, which at times reminds me of the old
Jil Sander Man (1989) Eau de Toilette - mind you, it reminds me. In the background, there is a restrained fruity note that leans towards red berries, possibly raspberries. Subsequently, I dared to test it on my skin again, and lo and behold, "21" develops just as beautifully as in the air - provided that you apply it sparingly.
However, I do not perceive any aquatic notes and I am not entirely sure about the white lily, but it will likely be responsible for the powdery to subtly vanilla nuance. You can definitely notice the enhancing effect of ISO-E-Super, which makes "21" not only a bit fluffier but also more projection-intensive.
Accordingly, I think that the fragrance deserves a second or third chance to relativize its initial synthetic impression; otherwise, I would have been quite irritated by "21" as well. That's just how it is with creations that use ISO-E-Super - they can sometimes come off as wrong, heavy, or even difficult to grasp.
I could write that you need to test it for a long time until it feels good, but I can imagine that there are also perfume lovers who generally cannot connect with "21" due to its synthetic structure.
Another observation: currently, 90% of users are female, while the classification rates the fragrance as 35% female and 29% male, thus considered quite balanced.
In conclusion: a rather appealing fragrance that could attract many, but does not necessarily reveal itself upon first encounter.
