Fried Egg
Even vegans are welcome to keep reading :-)
I only write reviews when it can't be helped. And by that, I mean: When it would cost me more time and nerves not to write a text that desperately wants to be released into the world than it would to actually do it.
I had no expectations of this scent. I tested number 6 and number 9 at some point, found neither terrible nor fabulous, unfortunately didn't take any notes, and must admit that both have pretty much vanished from my memory. But then recently, a very esteemed perfumer asked me what I thought of the various Valjues scents... and somehow it bothered me that I couldn't give a decent answer. (Especially since the perfumes are now appearing in more places, for example in the branches of the chain with the P in front.)
So I looked up what the different creations were supposed to represent - and I became intrigued by number 12. I've been (latently) searching for a "fresh laundry scent" for a long time. But like so many things that seem simple, this has proven to be quite difficult so far. Just the difference between laundry detergent scent and fresh laundry scent is not immediately clear to everyone.
(I don't want to bore you with the complete list of my failed attempts, but here are 2 examples: I found "Warm Cotton" by Clean Reserve to be neither "warm" nor "cotton," but only incredibly detergent-sharp, like: headfirst in the 10-kilo bucket of universal powder my mother used to have. "The Muse" by Zarko, on the other hand, smells to my nose like a very unpleasant mix of Lenor and Cool Water for Men, the latter in the 90s version.)
Now, here comes this candidate. I applied it a bit unmotivated... and BAM! This is - without a doubt, without straining to rummage through memories and without detours - the scent that the freshly washed, partly starched and ironed laundry in my parents' house emitted. Back then: Before Persil (which was exclusively used at home) had undergone yet another scent change.
It gets even more specific. As a little girl, I had a knitted teddy bear that I loved very much. His name was Fried Egg (because kids give their stuffed animals silly names) and he was made of cotton yarn (body beige; nose, ears, feet, and "hands" dark brown). Occasionally, he was washed and dried. When I got him back, he smelled exactly like Valjues 12. The essence of cleanliness, tidiness, security, being at home. Persil and dryer air on 100-percent cotton yarn, layered in the laundry basket with something that had been starched.
For this time capsule, it is absolutely essential that not a single bit of flower may be present. And I don't smell any. It's actually nothing I could categorize. At the same time, it's a cyber scent and hyper-nostalgic.
It lasts like hell - in the sense of poorly. But (appropriately) on textiles better than on (my) skin. For now, it has settled in. Maybe my nose will learn to perceive its labored heart more distinctly. If not, we'll see. For now, the short distance is enough. Me, myself & Fried Egg. What a trip.
