Outdoor Pool, Sunscreen, Ice Pop
30 years back… 30 degrees and a weekend… Me as a little kid up early, because the swimming pool was on the agenda… nervously had breakfast and then finally Mom and Dad packed the bag, got the bikes out, and off we went to the outdoor pool. Long lines at the entrance and little Julian getting more and more impatient and full of anticipation for the water slide.
But wait, first we need to apply sunscreen…
And here we are 30 years later, a wonderful sunny day today and the first time I’ve sprayed 19 - nineteen.
The scent in my nose (Mmmm - the images from the past in my mind’s eye), exactly the sunscreen note that my mom always used to apply on me - when she was still around.
Surrounding it are all the other impressions (meadow, kiddie pool, the ice pop). Everything captured in this fragrance. At the first spray, it’s initially very strong. Those who know twelve or twenty-one will be surprised by the sillage. Clearly stronger, yet sweet, creamy, summer. I perceive a hint of coconut, but also the slightly aquatic, and even more so the flowers and the light iris (which I love in fragrances. This gives it a slight powderiness). I also don’t notice a strong synthetic scent that some recognize, but I’m not a master perfumer either.
Longevity is good, 10 hours on the skin.
It becomes more intimate over time but still (with three sprays) quite remarkable. Yes, it is sweet, but it unmistakably captures the summer of my childhood in a bottle. Truly a highlight in my opinion and made for me. Filled with positive memories.
Does everyone like it? I don’t think so. For some men too soft, a fabric softener. For me, a scent of the past, without responsibility, the big green water slide, the 5m tower as a challenge and a smile on my lips.
That’s what a fragrance should be for me.
I am very positively surprised by Valjues and also puzzled by the rather low ratings in some cases. But that’s what makes it interesting. Tastes differ.
Sorry for the story around it, but with this fragrance, it was important for me to describe the context.
