Summer of Love
2007

My Eastpack has been sitting in the corner next to my desk for weeks now. I've finished year 10, I've got my school-leaving certificate in my pocket, I'm about to graduate and a summer full of tent evenings, parties with plenty of V+, Schöfferhofer grapefruit and the odd pack of Lucky Strike awaits me.

I'm 16 and counting the few first hairs on my face called puberty plum, but for me the first visible signs away from babyface.

Tonight, as is often the case, we sit together with the aforementioned "food supplements" and background music, optionally loud and peppered with punk, rock and metal. There will be a barbecue.

I dump out my Eastpack and pack my best band shirts and what little toiletry bag I have and stumble out the door onto my Holland bike.

Fresh battery in the MP3 player. i have a 12 km ride to my friends ahead of me. It's been raining and the ground in the fields is steaming because it's hot. There's an earthy smell in the air.
I crunch through the still damp path made of a mixture of gravel and sand. Nearby, the rapeseed fields are lush and overgrown.

"Temple of Love" by Sisters of Mercy from 1992 is blaring from my headphones.

My summer song this year.
The main thing is that I'm away from home - I'm used to cycling, just like all my friends.
I increase the speed and the volume of the music. Tailwind, the sun flashes through the clouds. The time is perfect when you stop looking at your watch.

My last summer without looking ahead. Only to today.

Tempo - Temple Of Love - Daydream.

"The Beach"
"I′m moving, I′m coming - Can you hear what I hear?
It's calling you, my dear - Out of reach (reach)
(Take me to my beach) - I can hear it, calling you I′m coming, not drowning
Swimming closer to you."

(All Saints - Pure Shores - OST)

If I played the role of Richard Fischer in the movie "The Beach", which many of us know, I would want to wear this fragrance. No matter whether I'm jumping several meters into the water from a rock or feeling sand between my toes by the campfire.
For me, it embodies what I would put in a fragrance if it were to fit this movie. Sea, salt, smoke, slightly dark aquatics, burnt wood from the night before.

For me, a strong companion on summer evenings with friends, when we have packed up our tents and spend hours together.

I don't want to write any more about the fragrance, sometimes less is more.
